Ezequiel Carrera signs minor-league deal with Blue Jays

(12/3/2014) The Blue Jays announced Wednesday they signed outfielder Ezequiel Carrera to a minor-league deal, which includes an invite to spring training. Carrera became a free agent after he was designated for assignment by the Tigers and declined an assignment to Triple-A Toledo in late November.

Carrera was claimed from the Phillies on May 2. He went 2 for 4 for the Indians in two games after hitting a dreadful .077/.250/.077 over 17 at-bats in Philadelphia. If he clears waivers, the Indians will likely send him back to Triple-A Columbus.

(4/4/2013) Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said outfielder Ezequiel Carrera was claimed off waivers from the Indians because the team liked his speed and experience off the bench, according to The News Journal.

"He provides some speed and versatility to play all three outfield positions. We’ll see what we got," Amaro Jr. said.

Carrera swiped 11 bases during the spring, which was tops in the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues. 

"I was more aggressive in spring training in trying some things, and the results were the 11 stolen bases," Carrera said. "It’s always been a part of my game, the speed. But I took more chances in spring training, and they paid off.”

(3/23/2013) Indians outfielder Ezequiel Carrera was a menace on the basepaths again in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Mariners. He went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. The 25-year-old stole two bases in the 10-5 win.

Carrera, projected as the fourth outfielder for Cleveland, is batting .286 (12 for 42) through 19 spring games with three RBI and 11 stolen bases.
