by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4/30/2015) With Astros shortstop Jed Lowrie on the disabled list and top prospect Carlos Correa off to a torrid start at Double-A, it would make sense for the Astros to call up the talented youngster since he could play regularly with Lowrie months away from returning.

Yet, despite the calls for Houston to give the 20-year-old Correa a chance to fill in for Lowrie, the Astros are just not ready to make that call.

“Carlos is getting close, but he’s had 70 at-bats above A-ball so we’d like to see more," Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow wrote in an email to the New York Post. "We are going to go with [Marwin Gonzalez/Jonathan Villar] for now, but we will be monitoring the situation closely.”

Correa, who is considered a top-five prospect by MLB.com (No. 3) and Baseball America (No. 4), has a .387/.452/.760/1.212 slash line through 18 games for Corpus Christi. He has one triple, five home runs, 11 doubles and 22 RBI.

Carter has begun the year 3 for 40 (.075 avg.) with no extra-base hits and has struck out 17 times.

"He's frustrated to the extent no one likes to get outs, but we're still at the very early stages, and he's done this before and come out of it," manager A.J. Hinch said, per MLB.com. "We believe he's going to be fine."
