Pirates sign three players to minor-league deals

(12/1/2014) The Pirates announced Monday they signed outfielder Gorkys Hernandez, infielder Deibinson Romero and catcher Sebastian Valle to minor-league contracts. All three received an invite to major-league camp.

(4/10/2014) The White Sox have traded for outfielder Gorkys Hernandez from the Royals for cash considerations, according to the Chicago Tribune. Hernandez was assigned  to Triple-A Charlotte immediately after the trade.

(3/10/2014) The Royals announced several roster moves Monday, which included sending top pitching prospect Kyle Zimmer to minor-league camp. Jason AdamAaron BrooksSugar Ray MarimonJuan GraterolBrandon LairdJorge BonifacioGorkys HernandezMelky Mesa  and Paulo Orlando were also reassigned to minor-league camp.

The Royals also optioned Chris Dwyer to Triple-A Omaha, while optioning John Lamb, Cheslor Cuthbert and Lane Adams to Double-A Northwest Arkansas.


Marlins, Royals swap Gorkys Hernandez for Alex McClure

(7/23/2013) The Marlins have traded outfielder Gorkys Hernandez to the Royals for shortstop Alex McClure Tuesday, according to the Sun Sentinel.

Hernandez hit .275 with four homers and 22 RBI in 309 at-bats with Triple-A New Orleans. McClure batted .220 with seven RBI in 255 in the minors between Class A and Double-A. 


Royals and Marlins make minor trade

(7/22/2013) The Royals acquired outfielder Gorkys Hernandez from the Marlins Monday in exchange for shortstop Alex McClure.

The 25-year-old Hernandez batted .275 with four homers and 22 steals with Triple-A New Orleans and was assigned to Omaha.

The 24-year-old McClure has played for Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Class A Wilmington this season and combined to hit .222. He is not a prospect.

(3/28/2013) Gorkys Hernandez has lost the competition for the final Marlins outfield spot to Chris Coghlan, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.

Hernandez hit .282/.370/.308 with only one extra-base hit (a double) in 46 spring games. The outfielder is out of options and the Marlins will likely seek to trade him.

(3/27/2013) Marlins outfielder Gorkys Hernandez said he wasn't pulled early from Wednesday's spring game against the Red Sox because of an injury, according to The Palm Beach Post. He said he was surprised he came out of the game early and believes there is a chance he might be traded. Hernandez is out of options, so the Marlins risk losing him on waivers if he doesn't make roster.

Marlins cast line on platoon in center

(3/18/2013) With outfielder Justin Ruggiano still working his way back from injury, Marlins manager Mike Redmond admitted Monday the team could use a platoon in center field to begin the regular season. Ruggiano was projected to serve as the everyday starter before a back injury forced him to miss the first two weeks of camp.

That has dropped him into an unofficial competition with Chris Coghlan and Gorkys Hernandez for the job; Miami is expected to keep two of the three. "We could definitely go that route, that way we make sure we don't wear one guy out," Redmond told The Miami Herald. "We don't have a ton of depth out there and we have to make sure we keep everybody healthy out there as well."
