Reds' Jay Bruce gets an off day vs. Madison Bumgarner, Giants

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5/15/2015) Reds outfielder Jay Bruce was held out of the starting lineup against left-hander Madison Bumgarner and the Giants on Friday, per the team's official website. Kris Negron will bat eighth and play in right field in Bruce's absence.

"I've got to find my days for the other guys," manager Bryan Price said, per MLB.com. "I'm hoping to get [Brennan] Boesch in this series and give him a start. I have to pick my times for these guys. Sometimes if it's a tougher match-up, I will do that. It's nothing to read into anything other than a day off [for Bruce] against a tough lefty."

Bruce has shown some power, but is off to a slow start at the plate this season. He is hitting .162 (19 for 117) with a double, two triples, five homers and 16 RBI in 34 games. He is a .206 hitter this season against left-handed pitching.

Cincinnati is an underdog (+125) at home against the Giants, per VegasInsider.com.

Reds SS Zack Cozart returns to lineup on Wednesday vs. Braves

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(5/13/2015) Reds shorstop Zack Cozart is back in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Braves. Cozart was scratched on Monday with soreness in his wrist. Cozart missed a few games earlier this month with a wrist injury, but he appears to be ready to go and is batting second on Wednesday.

Kris Negron will slide over to second base with Brandon Phillips unable to go due to a toe injury.

Reds' Kris Negron at first base for suspended Joey Votto

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(5/9/2015) Kris Negron makes his second start of the season at first base for the Reds in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.

Joey Votto is serving a one-game suspension, so Negron starts at first for the first time in eight games. He'll bat ninth in the order.

Reds SS Zack Cozart (finger) returns to starting lineup Friday

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(5/8/2015) Reds shortstop Zack Cozart is back in the starting lineup for Friday's contest against the White Sox. Cozart had missed the last the last three games due to a finger injury after being hit by a pitch on Sunday. Cozart had been rolling along before the injury, going 10 for his last 38, including a home run, a double and a triple in that stretch.

Kris Negron, who had been handling shortstop duties while Cozart was out, is playing first base on Friday for the suspended Joey Votto.

Reds SS Zack Cozart (finger) not able to start Wednesday

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(5/6/2015) Reds shortstop Zack Cozart remained out of the starting lineup on Wednesday. Cozart also missed Tuesday's game due to a finger injury sustained on Sunday. Kris Negron started at shortstop for the second straight game.

"It's better than it was [Tuesday], way better," Cozart said. "I took one of our machines home and iced like six times last night and this morning with compression. So, it's getting better. I would think I would be back sooner than later."

Reds' Zack Cozart, Devin Mesoraco out of lineup Tuesday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5/5/2015) Reds shortstop Zack Cozart (finger) and catcher Devin Mesoraco (hip) are not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Pirates in Pittsburgh.

Cozart sustained a finger injury while misplaying a groundball Sunday. It's the first time this season that the Reds haven't used him at shortstop to start the game. Kris Negron, who replaced Cozart Sunday, will bat seventh and play the position. Manager Bryan Price did say that Cozart is available to play Tuesday, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Mesoraco hasn't been in the starting lineup since the fifth game of the season but could see some starts later this week at designated hitter when the Reds play in an American League park.

The Reds are underdogs (+135) in Pittsburgh Tuesday, per VegasInsider.com.

by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(5/3/2015) Reds shortstop Zack Cozart left Sunday's game in Atlanta with an injured finger on his right hand but X-rays were negative, the team has announced.

Cozart injured the finger while misplaying a ground ball and committing an error.

Cozart has started every game for the Reds this season at shortstop.

Reds' Billy Hamilton back in lineup, Devin Mesoraco still out

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/20/2015) Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton is back in the lineup for Monday's game against the Brewers, while catcher Devin Mesoraco remains sidelined.

Hamilton wasn't in the lineup Sunday after suffering a groin strain the previous day, but he's ready to return to action in the team's series opener against the Brewers.

Mesoraco hasn't played since April 12 due to a left hip impingement. Manager Bryan Price said that he had to go home due to a family issue, but he's expected to be back with the team Tuesday, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Second baseman Brandon Phillips is also getting a day off from starting, with the team slotting Kris Negron into the eighth spot.

The Reds are underdogs (+104) Monday against the Brewers.

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/13/2015) Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton is not in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.

The Reds are underdogs (+122) in Chicago Monday.

Reds' Kris Negron seeking 25-man roster spot in bench role

by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(3/2/2015) With a strong finish to the 2014 season, Reds utility player Kris Negron is looking to build upon his success and earn a 25-man roster spot out of spring training.

After he was called up from the minors last July, Negron hit .271/.331/.479 with six home runs and 17 RBI in 49 appearances. If he's going to make a roster spot out of camp it will be in a bench role.

His defensive ability certainly helps his case as he can play second base, shortstop, third base and all three outfield spots. Negron doesn't have a preference either. He just wants to be on the baseball field.

"It doesn't matter one bit. Home sweet home is just on the field," Negron said, per MLB.com. "I'm still going to take advantage of every opportunity that I am given. It's the same exact mindset. Any opportunity to be on the field, any playing time, I'm going to try and take advantage of it and help the team any way I can. That's been my role my entire life. I look forward to it."

Kris Negron homers in three-hit night Wednesday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(8/6/2014) Reds infielder Kris Negron went 3 for 4 with a double and a two-run home run in his team's 8-3 victory over the Indians Wednesday.

Negron scored on a second-inning home run by Zack Cozart and blasted his own homer two innings later. He added a third run in the seventh inning, leaving him 5 for 9 with two doubles, a home run, four RBI and four runs in his last two games. Negron has hit .282/.317/.564 with three home runs and eight RBI in 39 at-bats.
