Sogard has no extra-base hits, five RBI, five walks, eight runs and 13 strikeouts in his last 20 games.

He has not homered in 54 games this season, extending his homerless streak to 90 games. It is tied for the second-longest homerless drought of his career. His career-worst is 110 games without a home run, per Baseball-Reference.com.

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Eric Sogard will get the start at second base and bat eighth on Saturday.

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

Sogard hit in his fourth straight game and had his second straight multi-hit day. Sogard stole his second base of the season. He walked once, drove in his tenth run of the year and lifted his average to .273.

"It felt great [to get a hit with a runner in scoring position]," Sogard said, per MLB.com. "I was up there earlier in the game in that situation and wasn't able to get the job done, so to be able to be in that position again and to have that opportunity was something I was looking forward to."

Max Muncy, Eric Sogard to man left side Thursday for Athletics

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5/7/2015) The left side of the Athletics infield Thursday in Minnesota will take on a decidedly unusual look. Max Muncy will man third base for the second time all year while Eric Sogard will experience his first start at short in 2015.

Muncy has just one start all year and is 3-for-10 on the season. He is expected to continue at third base when given the opportunity to play. Sogard has been a full-time starter at second base.

Athletics 2B Zobrist a no-go Thursday; Sogard set to start

(4/23/2015) Athletics left fielder/second baseman Ben Zobrist is starting to pile up the absences with a knee ailment. He is again sidelined Thursday against the host Angels.

Athletics' Ben Zobrist out of lineup Monday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/20/2015) Athletics second baseman Ben Zobrist is not in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Angels.

Zobrist came out of Sunday's game due to knee soreness and is being held out of his regular role one day later. Zobrist is hoping rest and cortisone will alleviate the issue and doesn't think it is as bad as the one that required surgery, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

"I know it's not normal, so in that regard, it's a little disconcerting," Zobrist said, per MLB.com. "I'm disappointed right now that I'm not in the lineup, and I definitely want to feel 100 percent, and I'm not there... We'll see how it reacts."

"If it reacts well and I feel I can really move out there and contribute, then I'll give it a go. If not, then we'll have to give it more time."

With Zobrist sidelined, catcher Stephen Vogt will move to the No. 3 spot in the lineup, while Eric Sogard will draw the start at second base and bat eighth.

The Athletics are underdogs (+135) against the Angels on the road Monday.

Mark Canha moves from left field to first base, replacing Davis. Cody Ross gets the start in left, batting fifth.

Craig Gentry gets the call in center, batting leadoff.

by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com

A day before in the series-finale against the Rangers, Canha hit seventh. This season, Canha is already 4 of 9 with two double and four RBI. Catcher Stephen Vogt will move down the lineup and bat seventh.

Athletics C Vogt becomes third different player to hit third in order

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(4/9/2015) Athletics catcher Stephen Vogt will become the third different player to hit third in the batting on Thursday against the Rangers, per MLB.com. Manager Bob Melvin went with Sam Fuld in the opener, followed by Eric Sogard in Game 2 and newcomer Cody Ross in Game 3.

"Somebody's got to hit there," Vogt said, per the San Francisco Chronicle. "That's a spot where we're trying to find who the right guy will be."

Mark Canha will hit No. 7 in Vogt's place.

Oakland will face right-hander Nick Martinez on Thursday. Vogt is hitting .429 (3 for 7) with a double, a home run and an RBI to start the season.

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Melvin added, however, Reddick might be ready to play during the team's season-opening, seven-game homestand from April 6-12.

Athletics' Eric Sogard has 'no problem jumping around' field

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(3/17/2015) Athletics infielder Eric Sogard has worked primarly at second base over the last two seasons but will take over a utility role this season after the acquisition of Ben Zobrist this offseason, MLB.com reports.

"I grew up bouncing around, so as long as I get my ground balls and my reps, I'll get comfortable," Sogard said. "Obviously, I'll be most comfortable at second where I've played the most, but I have no problem jumping around."

Sogard has seen three appearances at shortstop during Cactus League play this spring and made his seventh appearance at second base Tuesday.

"He understands the role," manager Bob Melvin said. "He's a guy who understands what we do around here, moving guys around. The fact he might not get as many starts at second because of Ben doesn't mean he won't get some starts and get in games as they go along. He knows the drill here, and I'm comfortable with what he can do for us. He had more starts at second last year even though he'll get them all over the place this year. He's getting a lot more reps at short and looks more comfortable there."

Sogard is 7 for 27 with two doubles and one walk this spring.

The team also offered $900,000 to Sogard, who hit .223/.298/.268 with one home run, 22 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 291 at-bats. Both players are in their first year of arbitration eligibility.

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5/17/2014) Slumping Athletics second baseman Eric Sogard is not in the lineup for the Saturday night game in Cleveland. Nick Punto will man the position instead.

Sogard has gone hitless in eight of the last 10 games in which he has had at least one plate appearance. His 3-for-33 slide in May has lowered his batting average from .217 to .172.

A's appear content with middle-infield alignment

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(1/29/2014) The Athletics are not considering signing shortstop Stephen Drew and moving Jed Lowrie to second base, sources told FOX Sports.

The A's appear comfortable with an Eric Sogard and Nick Punto platoon at second base. Also, some evaluators believe Lowrie might be more of a defensive liability at second base than he is at shortstop.

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10/3/2013) Athletics manager Bob Melvin revealed Thursday that infielder Eric Sogard will start at second base in Friday's Game 1 of the American League Division Series against the Tigers.

Sogard played second base exclusively for the first fourth months of the season before alternating between second base and shortstop in August and September. He hit .266/.322/.364 with two home runs, 35 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 368 at-bats during the regular season.

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
