Yankees add Williams, Austin, two more to 40-man roster

(11/20/2014) The Yankees announced Thursday they added outfielder Tyler Austin, pitcher Danny Burawa, pitcher Branden Pinder and outfielder Mason Williams to the 40-man roster. The Yankees also sold the rights of infielder Zelous Wheeler to the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of Japan’s Pacific League.

Williams was considered the Yankees' third-best prospect by Baseball America heading into the 2014 season. 


Zelous Wheeler gets the call from Triple-A

(8/21/2014) Yankees infielder Zelous Wheeler was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Thursday, the team announced.

Wheeler was sent down in early August to make room for the team's trade deadline acquisitions. He hit .267/.267/.467 in 30 at-bats with the Yankees earlier in the season. 


Yankees demote two to create room for trade acquisitions

(8/1/2014) The Yankees have dispatched outfielder Zoilo Almonte and infielder Zelous Wheeler to Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre to make room on the roster for trade acquisitions Martin Prado and Stephen Drew.

Almonte had only been up with the Yankees for three days. Wheeler was 8 for 30 in his short time with the big league club.


Zelous Wheeler homers in major-league debut

(7/3/2014) Making his major-league debut Thursday, Yankees third baseman Zelous Wheeler went 2 for 4 with a home run and two runs scored in his team's 7-4 win over the Twins.

Wheeler hasn't flashed a lot of power in the minors, but he did put together a quality .299/.367/.467 line with seven home runs and 31 RBI in 244 at-bats with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before his promotion. He has the ability to fill in at second base, third base and shortstop as needed.


Zelous Wheeler added to Yankees' roster

(7/3/2014) The Yankees recalled infielder/outfielder Zelous Wheeler from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take the roster spot of Yangervis Solarte, who was optioned to the minors Thursday. Wheeler hit .299 with seven home runs, 20 doubles and 31 RBI in 66 games at Triple-A.

Yankees sign nine to minor-league deals

(1/29/2014) The Yankees announced Wednesday they signed nine players to minor-league contracts, which included an invitation to spring training.

They were pitcher Bruce Billings, infielder Russ Canzler, pitcher Robert Coello, pitcher Brian Gordon, pitcher Chris Leroux, outfielder Antoan Richardson, infielder Scott Sizemore, infielder Yangervis Solarte and infielder Zelous Wheeler.


Yankees sign three to minor-league deals

(11/16/2013) The Yankees have signed third baseman Zelous Wheeler , outfielder Antoan Richardson and pitcher Jim Miller to minor-league deals, Baseball America reprots.

Wheeler hit .275/.354/.414 with 11 home runs and 56 RBI in 408 at-bats between Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk last season. Richardson hit .285/.402/.371 with no home runs, 43 RBI and 39 stolen bases in 421 at-bats between Double-A New Britain and Triple-A Rochester last season. Miller went 3-5 with a 3.55 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 92:25 K:BB ratio in 63 1/3 innings with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
