Corey Brown heading to Triple-A

(8/19/2014) Red Sox outfielder Corey Brown has accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A, according to the Boston Herald

Brown was designated for assignment by the club earlier this week, and opted to accept the assignment and remain with the franchise. He's hitting .226/.294/.452 over 292 at-bats in the minors.

Brown is taking Allen Craig's spot on the active roster after he was placed on the disabled list. Brown is hitting .226 with 16 home runs in 292 at-bats for Triple-A Pawtucket. Brown appeared in 14 games for the Nationals a year ago.

(2/19/2014) The Red Sox have "really high" expectations for outfielder Corey Brown, according to Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe. The team likes his skills and power as a left-handed hitter.

Brown, who signed a minor-league contract in early February, has a career .267 average, .484 slugging percentage and .835 OPS in seven minor-league seasons. Brown has appeared in just 36 major-league games, batting .175 with a .400 slugging percentage and .650 OPS.

Brown was outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento by the club. Since he was out of options, Brown decided to elect free agency instead of playing in the minors this season.

Brown does not have options left on his deal, which is why he had to be outrighted. He was designated for assignment with the club January 22. Brown has already cleared waivers and can elect free agency if he chooses. Brown has hit .175 in 40 at-bats in the majors.
