Quintin Berry now a question for opening day
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (3/18/2013) Tigers outfielder Quintin Berry was not with the team, which was on the road, for Monday's Grapefruit League game, reports MLB.com. Berry remained in Lakeland to undergo treatment on his left knee for recurring patellar tendinitis.
This knee condition sidelined Berry nearly two weeks this spring and it severely hurts his chances of breaking camp with the Tigers.
Manager Jim Leyland said Berry's tendinitis is somewhat rare because it is higher up in the knee than usual. That means treatment is not immediately cut and dry. Berry, locked in a roster battle for a spot on the bench, has seen that battle tighten with the emergence of Jeff Kobernus, the team's Rule 5 draft pick.
If Berry is not healthy, he will not be on the opening-day roster.
