In order to make room on the active roster, Kevin Pillar was sent down to the minors. In order to get Glenn on the 40-man roster, the club designated Jonathan Diaz for assignment.

After being recalled from Triple-A Buffalo Monday night following shortstop Jose Reyes going on the disabled list with a hamstring injury, Diaz was in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Rays, batting ninth.

(3/31/2014) Blue Jays shortstop Jonathan Diaz will be recalled from Triple-A Buffalo to take the spot of shortstop Jose Reyes, who is expected to be placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, Sportsnet reports.

Diaz is in his first season with the Toronto organization and went 3 for 24 in spring training. He spent 2013 with Triple-A Pawtucket, hitting .253/.358/.316 with two home runs and 10 stolen bases in 332 at-bats.

(11/11/2013) Sportsnet.ca reports that the Blue Jays signed reliever Michael Broadway and infielder Jonathan Diaz to minor league contracts Monday.

Broadway pitched most recently for Triple-A Syracuse in the Nationals' system, going 1-1 with a 2.28 ERA and six saves. Diaz appeared in five games with the Red Sox, and he hit .253 with two home runs and 31 RBI with Triple-A Pawtucket.

(7/8/2013) Red Sox infielder Jonathan Diaz has been outrighted to Triple-A Pawtucket, MLB.com reports. The 28-year-old appeared in five games for Boston and went 0 for 4 with two runs scored. He will go back to playing third base for Pawtucket, where he owns a .242/.350/.341 line with two home runs in 57 games.

(7/6/2013) Red Sox infielder Jonathan Diaz was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket following Friday's win over the Angels, MLB.com reports. Diaz was seen shaking hands and saying goodbye to teammates following the game. 

The Red Sox are expected to recall Brock Holt in his place with shortstop Stephen Drew on the disabled list. Holt is batting .263 with a homer and 18 RBI over 60 games with Pawtucket.

Diaz went 0 for 4 over five games before being optioned.

(6/29/2013) The Red Sox recalled third baseman Jon Diaz from Triple-A Pawtucket to play third base Saturday against Toronto. Clayton Mortensen was designated for assignment, reports the Boston Globe

Diaz, 28, gets the start at third with Jose Iglesias playing shortstop due to Stephen Drew's injury. Diaz is batting .242 with Pawtucket this season over 182 at-bats. 


Xander Bogaerts among Red Sox cuts

(3/25/2013) The Boston Red Sox made a few more cuts on Monday following a Grapefruit League loss to the Orioles. Boston reassigned shortstop and prospect Xander Bogaerts to minor-league camp. Infielders Drew Sutton and Jon Diaz will head to minor-league camp with Bogaerts. 

The 20-year-old Bogaerts hit .286 this spring after striking out in his only at-bat on Monday. He showed promise in the field and at the plate but the Red Sox weren't ready to let him go in the majors since he's never played above Double-A. He hit .326 over his final 92 at-bats last year with Double-A Portland after hitting .302 over 384 at-bats at Class A Salem. 

He is considered the No. 8 prospect in all of baseball by Baseball America to start the season.
