Dodgers moves: RP David Huff to Triple-A, Sergio Santos to free agency

(6/7/2015) The Dodgers were busy on Saturday as far as their bullpen was concerned. They cleared a couple of spots off their 40-man roster by sending David Huff to Triple-A Oklahoma City and when they lost Sergio Santos to free agency.

The Dodgers designated Santos for assignment on May 27 and elected to become a free agent rather than accept his designation to Triple-A.

Huff was designated for assignment earlier this week and will head to Oklahoma City. He made one start for the Dodgers this season, allowing four runs in four innings back in April.

(6/2/2015) The Dodgers sent catcher Austin Barnes down to its Triple-A affiliate, the team announced Tuesday. Barnes was 1 for 3 in four games this season.

The team also designated pitcher David Huff for assignment Tuesday. Huff produced a 10.80 ERA in five innings this season.

(6/1/2015) Veteran left-hander David Huff, who has performed well since his demotion to Triple-A Oklahoma City, has  been called up by the Dodgers. He will start Tuesday at Colorado, per MLB.com.

Huff, who pitched just once in April for the Dodgers, is 2-0 with a 2.35 ERA in six games, including two starts, for Oklahoma City. He has allowed just one run on four hits in his last 7 1/3 innings.

The Dodgers demoted reliever Matt West to make room for Huff. West didn't even get a sip of coffee - he had been brought up Sunday.


Dodgers could seek a No. 5 starter as Ryu remains without a timetable

(4/24/2015) The Dodgers could be in the market for a No. 5 starter, as South Korean hurler Hyun-Jin Ryu remains without a timetable for return in his recovery from a shoulder impingement, reports CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.

Ryu was limited to two spring starts and has not pitched since March 17 due to the issue. The Dodgers have used swing man David Huff for a spot start on April 14 and Mike Bolsinger on Thursday to fill in that role.

The 30-year-old Huff did not exactly take advantage of his lone opportunity this season, a spot start against Seattle. He gave up four runs on seven hits, including two home runs, in four innings.

Dennick began the year in the Reds organization with Triple-A Louisville. Huff made a spot start against the Mariners on Wednesday in a 6-5 win. Huff gave up four earned runs in four innings pitched.

Huff narrowly missed out on a roster spot to begin the season. Barney was unable to record a hit in his four at-bats to begin the season.

Huff failed to win a spot on the pitching staff coming out of the spring but will take the mound Tuesday to square off against Hisashi Iwakuma. Huff made 46 appearances out of the bullpen last season, posting a 3.36 ERA in 59 innings, but hasn't started a game in the majors since 2013.

(4/5/2015) The Dodgers have decided to option outfielders Chris Heisey, Enrique Hernandez, pitchers Adam Liberatore, Sergio Santos, David Aardsma and David Huff to their minor league teams, according to MLB.com.

Liberatore did not allow a run in 10 1/3 innings of work this spring with nine strikeouts and three walks. Aardsma posted a 2.00 ERA with nine strikeouts in nine appearances this spring.

(12/3/2014) The Yankees non-tendered outfielder Slade Heathcott, and pitchers Jose Campos and David Huff prior to Tuesday's deadline, making them free agents, reports the New York Post. Heathcott was a first round pick (29th overall) by the Yankees in 2009.  Both he and Campos spent the season in the minors. Huff posted a 3.36 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP over 59 innings of relief in 2014.

(8/24/2014) Yankees reliever David Huff (3-1) picked up his third win of the season Sunday afternoon at home against the White Sox.

The left-hander struck out two and allowed two hits in a scoreless inning of work. Brian McCann belted a three-run home run in the bottom of the frame to end the game. Huff owns a 4.07 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP over 48 2/3 innings of relief.

David Huff open to starting, but no move imminent

(7/5/2014) Yankees veteran left-hander David Huff said he would be open to moving from the bullpen to the rotation after outperforming starter Chase Whitley in relief Friday night.

Huff pitched three hitless innings to get the win in Minnesota, striking out three along the way after Whitley was bombed out to the tune of four runs on eight hits, including two home runs. Whitley has struggled in his last three outings.

Asked if he was ready to assume a starting role, Huff told NJ.com, "I think I am. I don't know how long I could possibly go. But I haven't (started) this year yet, so we'd have to see."

Joe Girardi is not ready to make that move. He expressed confidence after the game that Whitley would figure out the command issues that have plagued him lately. He added nothing about the possibility of Huff becoming a starter.

(6/11/2014) Veteran left-hander David Huff has a new team five days after being designated for assignment by San Francisco. He has been traded to the Yankees for cash and will join the team Wednesday in Seattle.

The 29-year-old Huff was a mess with the Giants, particularly in recent appearances. He surrendered 11 runs on 22 hits in his last 13 innings pitched.

"There's no hard feelings," Huff said. "I appreciate what this organization has done for me. If I end up clearing waivers and accepting my assignment, I won't be upset about that."

(5/9/2014) Giants reliever David Huff began his rehab assignment for Triple-A Memphis Thursday, as expected, as he continues to work his way back from a quad strain.

Huff started the game and tossed three scoreless innings, scattering three hits. He struck out one batter while throwing 32 of 46 pitches for strikes.

Huff had a 3.86 ERA in seven innings of work prior to the injury, and it is not yet clear exactly when he is expected back from the disabled list.

"He had to run curves today," manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday. "I haven't talked to Dave Groeschner our trainer yet, to see how he came out of that. Huff feels great, he'll do some pitchers' fielding practice in the outfield and there's a good chance he could begin his rehab on Thursday in Triple-A."

Huff was called upon in the second inning after starter Ryan Vogelsong was able to only record four outs, and the reliever was able to secure the final two outs of the inning on just three pitches. (4/4/2014) Giants pitcher David Huff, who allowed one run in his previous outing, got back on track and came away with his first win of the season Friday against the Giants.

Huff (1-0) relieved Ryan Vogelsong in the fifth inning with an 8-2 lead. He tossed 1 2/3 innings, allowing just two hits and no walks while striking out three. 22 of his 30 pitches were called for strikes.

(3/10/2014) Making his spring debut Monday, Giants pitcher David Huff surrendered one earned run on two hits in one inning of work in his team's 3-2 loss to the Cubs.

Huff has dealt with shoulder tenderness this spring, causing him to get a late start on Cactus League action. He went 3-1 with a 5.50 ERA and 31:9 K:BB ratio in 37 2/3 innings between the Indians and Yankees last season.
