Rangers won't extend contract offer to Engel Beltre

(11/11/2014) The Rangers will not extend a contract offer to outfielder Engel Beltre, according to ESPN. Beltre missed the 2014 season due to a fractured right tibia.

Beltre became a free agent after refusing an assisgnment to Triple-A.

"He's exploring other options," general manager Jon Daniels said. "We are as well. We haven't closed the door. We haven't made him an offer at this point."

(6/27/2014) Rangers outfielder Engel Beltre made his minor-league rehab debut Thursday for Triple-A Round Rock, as he begins to work his way back from a leg injury.

Beltre, who has yet to play this season due to a fractured right tibia, started in the outfield Thursday before being replaced in the later innings. He went 1 for 4 at the plate in what should be the first game of a 20-day rehab assignment.

Beltre has progressed to taking batting practice at the team's spring training complex in Arizona, as he continues to recover from a stress fracture in his right leg. He could be assigned to a minor-league team within the next few days, as he works his way back.

Beltre, who is working his way back from a fractured tibia in spring training, participated in a workout prior to Monday's game against Cleveland. He will likely need a minor-league rehab assignment before he is reinstated from the disabled list.

Beltre, who has been out since suffering a fractured tibia in spring training, could be cleared to play in games in the coming days. He will likely begin in extended spring training, before advancing to an official minor-league rehab assignment.

(4/13/2014) Rangers outfielder Engel Beltre is not expected back for another two months at least, MLB.com reports Sunday. Beltre underwent surgery to insert a rod into his fractured right tibia in early April, after suffering the injury in spring training.

"It was on and off," Beltre said. "I would get treatment and it would get better, and then it would get worse. The last week I was limping."

(3/10/2014) Rangers outfielder Engel Beltre returned from shin splits Sunday to go 0 for 1 at the plate, then struck out in his only at-bat Monday in his team's 8-2 win over the Reds.

Beltre is 4 for 15 through seven appearances this spring as he competes for a bench role with the Rangers.

(3/7/2014) Rangers outfielder Engel Beltre took batting practice and completed some defensive work Friday but was unable to play in his team's Cactus League game for the second straight day due to shin splints, MLB.com reports.

"The fact that he is still able to hit and field means we don't view this as serious," assistant general manager Thad Levine said. "But we wanted to be cautious."

Beltre is out of options and in a competition for a bench role with the team. He is 4 for 13 with one walk thus far.

(9/2/2013) With Triple-A Round Rock finishing their season Monday, the Rangers will recall three players from the roster on Tuesday in Oakland, the Dallas Morning News reports.

The Rangers will recall reliever Ross Wolf and outfielders Engel Beltre and Joey Butler.

Beltre batted .278 with two RBI over 17 games with the Rangers earlier in the year. The lefty hit .292 at Round Rock with seven homers and 34 RBI over 94 games.

Butler played in two games with Texas in August and went 2 for 4 for the Rangers. He hit .291 with 12 homres and 51 RBI for Round Rock over 119 games.

Wolf was sent down last week by Texas. He went 1-3 with a 4.14 over 21 games and three starts from May 22 through Aug. 30.

Beltre could return to the roster when they expand in September. Beltre, 23, saw 36 at-bats with Texas. He hit .278 with two RBI and a stolen base.

(8/5/2013) The Texas Rangers have recalled outfielder Engel Beltre from Triple-A Round Rock Monday. Beltre provides needed outfield depth after the Rangers lost Nelson Cruz to suspension. 

The 23-year-old Beltre was up with Texas from the end of June through July and went 9 for 30 (.300) in 13 games and three starts. The speedy outfielder stole one base in two attempts.

(6/23/2013) The Rangers recalled outfielder Engel Beltre from Triple-A Round Rock Sunday to take the roster spot of Craig Gentry, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list. Beltre hit .300 with one triple, four home runs, 13 stolen bases, 17 doubles and 21 RBI in 72 games for Round Rock.

Beltre's first appearance will be his major-league debut.

(3/19/2013) The Rangers made another wave of roster cuts Tuesday, optioning pitchers Jeff Beliveau and Wilmer Font, outfielder Engel Beltre and first baseman Mike Olt to Triple-A Round Rock. Texas also moved first basemen Brandon Allen and Brandon Snyder, catchers Jose Felix and Juan Apodaca, pitchers Collin Balester, Neal CottsEvan Meek and Yoshinori Tateyama to its minor-league camp.

Olt is viewed as one of the club's top prospects, but struggled during his spring audition and hit just .194 in Cactus League play. The 24-year-old did manage two homers and should rise to the Rangers later in the year.
