Kalish tripled in his first at-bat, driving in Emilio Bonifacio from first. He walked in his both his second and third at-bats, but failed to score a run. He struck again in the sixth, hitting a double in a four-pitch at-bat. The hit drove in two more RBI. 

He finished the game 2 for 3, with two runs and three RBI.

(3/27/2014) Ryan Kalish will break camp with the Cubs as a spare outfielder while Mike Olt has landed a spot at third base.

It will mark his first experience for Kalish in the National League after spending four years with Boston, though neck and back injuries cost him all of the 2013 season. He showed some promise as a rookie in 2010, but has just 96 major league at-bats (all in 2012) since.

The 25-year-old Olt earned a spot with a fine spring and could wind up with the starting job at third.

Kalish did not appear in a game last season, due to surgery on his shoulder and then neck. In two seasons with the Red Sox, Kalish hit .243/.293/.351 with four home runs in 259 at-bats.

Baker batted .205/.302/.295 with four homers and 18 RBI over 146 at-bats with Triple-A Alburquerque last season.

Red Sox make flurry of roster moves

(11/4/2013) The Boston Red Sox made a series of official roster moves on Monday as they removed several players from the 60-day disabled list. 

Relief pitcher Andrew Bailey, who had both his labrum and shoulder capsule repaired in July, comes off the DL. He's expected to be sidelined a minimum of 12 months while recovering from the procedure. 

Outfielder Ryan Kalish missed last season due to a shoulder injury and underwent cervical fusion surgery on his back in August. He could be playing with a different team next season. 

In other moves, the Red Sox sent infielder Brandon Snyder and outfielder Quintin Berry outright to Triple-A Pawtucket.

(8/14/2013) Red Sox outfielder Ryan Kalish underwent cervical fusion surgery Tuesday -- his fourth procedure since 2011, according to the Boston Herald. Manager John Farrell described the surgery as "invasive and drastic," but he's hopeful Kalish will be ready to play by spring training.

"That’s unfortunate," Farrell said. "Obviously it’s (an injury) of some severity, and hopefully through the rehab, he gets back to the player that he was when he first came up because it was an exciting young player."

(8/12/2013) The Red Sox announced Monday that outfielder Ryan Kalish is expected to undergo back surgery Tuesday in Los Angeles, the Boston Globe reports.

Kalish's condition is related to his earlier neck issues. The procedure is not career threatening, though he is done for the season.

Kalish, 25, was already on the 60-day DL. He did not play this season.

(5/14/2013) Red Sox outfielder Ryan Kalish (shoulder) is expected to meet with doctors in Boston early next week with the hopes of being cleared for swinging, The Springfield Republican reports. Kalish has been on the disabled list since the end of spring training after having offseason shoulder surgery, but has been able to play catch and lift weights.

"My right shoulder feels great, it's coming along nicely," he said Monday. "The strength is all there now. I feel pretty much just as strong in my left as I do in my right. There's always a little ache that's different, but I learned that with my left shoulder, that's just something that will come with an offseason of rest and restrengthening it up."

Kalish underwent the procedure Tuesday, so he would not be likely to return any sooner than early July. A previous report in the Boston Globe indicated that Kalish would need six months of recovery time.
