Chia-Jen Lo gives up game-winning grand slam

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(9/2/2013) Astros reliever Chia-Jen Lo was called upon to pitch in the ninth inning Monday against the Twins. With the score tied at six runs apiece, Lo was challenged to keep it that way.

The reliever could not, however, as he surrendered a grand slam to Chris Colabello and the Twins won 10-6. Lo took the loss to fall to 0-3 on the season with a 5.25 ERA. He allowed four earned runs on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts in an inning.

The 27-year-old Lo has allowed seven runs over his last five appearances spanning 4 2/3 innings with seven walks given up over that stretch. He has gone 2 for 4 in save situations this season.

Chia-Jen Lo blows another save

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(8/25/2013) Astros reliever Chia-Jen Lo blew his second save of the season Sunday in the ninth inning against Toronto. Lo walked three batters with a 1-0 lead and two ended up coming around to score.

The reliever dropped to 0-2 on the year as he took the loss. He allowed a base hit and struck out one batter.  His ERA is at 2.61.

Lo has gone 0-2 with a blown save in his last three appearances and has one saved game over that span. He's been seeing save chances, but hasn't been very effective.

Chia-Jen Lo earns second save

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(8/24/2013) Astros pitcher Chia-Jen Lo was handed a save opportunity Saturday and converted it, allowing one hit and striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning during his team's 8-5 win over the Blue Jays.

Lo took the loss in his last appearance, giving up his first earned run of the season in 1 2/3 innings of work against the Rangers Wednesday. The team still showed enough confidence to give him the save chance Saturday. He owns a 0.90 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 6:5 K:BB ratio in 10 innings of work while saving two games.

Chia-Jen Lo allows first run in first loss

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(8/21/2013) Astros reliever Chia-Jen Lo took his first career loss Wednesday night in Texas. Lo pitched the final 1 2/3 innings for the Astros and allowed Elvis Andrus' walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth.

Lo (0-1) gave up the one earned run on just one hit and two walks over 1 2/3 frames. He did not strike out a batter and threw 28 pitches. His ERA is at 1.00.

Making his eighth career appearance, Lo allowed just his first run. He has one save in two chances for the Astros and has been sharing duties in the ninth.

Josh Fields, Chia-Jen Lo to split save chances

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(8/18/2013) The Astros have decided to go with a two-person closer committee, the Houston Chronicle reports Sunday. Houston manager Bo Porter will go with Chia-Jen Lo and Josh Fields to close out games in the ninth.

"I'll fluctuate between (Lo and Fields) based on the workload previously leading up to that game," Porter said.

Lo has not yet been scored upon this season over 7 1/3 innings. He has one save and five strikeouts for the Astros. Fields has seen more opportunity. He has a 1-3 record and 6.84 ERA over 28 appearances and 25 innings. Fields has two saves.

Chia-Jen Lo nets first career save

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(8/14/2013) Astros reliever Chia-Jen Lo picked up the save Tuesday night in Oakland. With the game getting tight in the later innings, Lo calmed the storm.

The reliever picked up his first career save as he walked a batter but otherwise had a clean 1 1/3 innings as he recorded four outs for the save.

Lo threw 23 pitches and has not allowed an earned run yet this season over 5 2/3 innings.

Astros to go closer-by-committee

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(7/30/2013) The Houston Astros will go to a closer-by-committee approach to the ninth inning after trading Jose Veras to the Tigers, MLB.com reports Tuesday. Houston plays at Baltimore beginning Tuesday night.

Jose Cisnero, Travis Blackley and Chia-Jen Lo could all be options to get the ball for manager Bo Porter in the ninth.

Is Chia-Jen Lo a darkhorse for saves?

by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/29/2013) With the Astros trading Jose Veras and not having a slam-dunk options for saves (Jose Cisnero is iffy, Josh Fields hasn't been great lately), AL-only leaguers in need of saves -- and dynasty owners looking to rebuild for 2014 -- may want to consider Chia-Jen Lo as a darkhorse closer candidate.

The 27-year-old Taiwanese righty has struggled with injury throughout his career, but he's produced a 2.11 ERA over 128 minor league innings pitched, with a 1.08 WHIP and 10.8 K/9. In 17 appearances this season, Lo has six saves, with 11 games finished.

With the Astros out of contention, it might behoove the team to test Lo's mettle this season and see if he can close games at the major league level. And if he proves effective, Lo could be a great speculative add in dynasty leagues.

Astros recall reliever Chia-Jen Lo from Double-A

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(7/29/2013) The Houston Astros recalled pitcher Chia-Jen Lo from Double-A Corpus Christi Monday. The 27-year-old Lo has played in three different levels in the organization thus far this season.

He has combined between Class A (two teams) and Double-A to go without a record with a 3.24 ERA over 17 appearances and 16 2/3 innings with 20 strikeouts. Lo is expected to pitch in relief for the Astros.
