(2/28/2015) The Blue Jays have signed outfielder Dayan Viciedo to a minor-league deal, FOXSports reports.

The Blue Jays are dealing with an injury to left fielder Michael Saunders, but it was announced Friday that Saunders is only expected to miss up to six weeks after initially being thought to be out until the All-Star break. by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

"We talked to his representative but I don’t know if we have a fit for him," Jocketty said. "They’re looking for more playing time. With our outfield the way it is, I don’t see it as a good fit."

Viciedo, 25, will be under team control for three more seasons when he signs with a team. He hit .231/.281/.405 with 21 home runs and 58 RBI in 523 at-bats with the White Sox in 2014 but owns an .837 career OPS against left-handers.

White Sox release outfielder Dayan Viciedo

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2/4/2015) The White Sox released outfielder Dayan Viciedo on Wednesday. The team placed Viciedo on waivers last week in hopes of stirring up trade interest.

Viciedo, who will turn 26 years old on March 10, has hit more than 20 homers in two of the last three seasons. But he has yet to reach his full potential, batting just .254 with a .424 slugging percentage in five MLB seasons.

White Sox DFA Dayan Viciedo to see if any trade interest remains

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(1/29/2015) White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said putting outfielder Dayan Viciedo on waivers could be the final step to trading him, which is something the team has explored all offseason. Viciedo was designated for assignment Wednesday, which means Chicago has 10 days to trade, release or outright him to the minors.

"It got to the point where Dayan didn’t very likely fit on this club in a meaningful way for 2015,"  Hahn said, per CSNChicago.com. "The thought with designating him was flesh out any interest over the next 10 days or so and find him a better home going into the next season."

Viciedo, who will turn 26 years old on March 10, has hit more than 20 homers in two of the last three seasons. But he has yet to reach his full potential, batting just .254 with a .424 slugging percentage in five MLB seasons.

The White Sox seem OK if they deal Viciedo and he finally reaches his full potential with another team.

"He's still young and he still has a world of talent and a great deal of power that we’ve all seen on display over a number of years," Hahn said. "It's not going to surprise any of us in the least if he goes on to have a very successful career elsewhere."

White Sox, Dayan Viciedo avoid arbitration

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(1/12/2015) The White Sox have avoided arbitration with outfielder Dayan Viciedo.

Viciedo agreed to a one-year deal worth $4.4 million. While agreeing one a deal isn't necessarily big news, the new contract could impact the trade market for Viciedo. With the team signing Melky Cabrera in the offseason, Viciedo has been relegated to a backup role. The team is reportedly shopping Viciedo, and it's possible teams balked not knowing how much Viciedo would earn in 2015. Now that Viciedo's salary has been established, it could make a trade easier for Chicago.

The 25-year-old hit .231/.281/.405 over 523 at-bats last year.

The 26-year-old Viciedo hit .231/.281/.405 over 523 at-bats last year. Viciedo is arbitration eligible, and would remain under team control until 2018.

Report: White Sox's Viciedo could be alternative option for Mariners

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/10/2014) The Mariners are showing increased interest in trading for White Sox outfielder Dayan Viciedo in order to obtain a right-handed power bat to play in right field, sources told Bob Dutton of The News Tribune.

Trying to trade for Viciedo has become an option after unsuccessful attempts thus far to sign free agent outfielder Melky Cabrera or acquire Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp. USA Today reported Tuesday the White Sox are shopping Viciedo.

Viciedo hit a career-low .231 in 2014. However, he belted 20-plus homers for the second time in three seasons. The 25-year-old outfielder is entering his first year of arbitration and is under team control through the 2017 season.
