Mazzaro has experience as a starter but has been used primarily as a reliever in the minors this season. The 26-year-old is probably not a candidate for high-leverage situations at this time. He has a career 5.22 ERA and 5.01 FIP over 286 major-league innings.

Mazzaro has a chance to fight for a role in the Pirates’ bullpen in spring training, after they acquired him in the offseason.
