(10/15/2007) Catcher Eric Munson was claimed by the Brewers off waivers from the Astros on Monday. The 30-year-old left-handed hitter batted .235 with four homers and 15 RBI in 50 games with Houston last year, and hit .283 with seven homers and 26 RBI for Triple-A Round Rock. He was taken by Detroit with the third overall pick of the 1999 amateur draft and signed with the Astros in December 2005.

C Munson unlikely to make cut


(3/26/2007) MLB.com reports that Astros C Eric Munson, a non-roster invitee, is likely headed for Triple-A Round Rock to start the season, losing the backup catcher role to Humberto Quintero. Munson is hitting a nice .395 with 9 RBI, compared to Quintero's .200 average, but Quintero has been better behind the plate. "I don't want to exclude Munson out of that," manager Phil Garner said. "Obviously, I'm using 'Q' more now and 'Q' is in the lead in that hunt. But Munson continues to have a nice spring and he's been very good behind the plate."

Astros C Gimenez done for season


(2/28/2007) MLB.com reports that Astros catcher Hector Gimenez has received word that he'll need surgery for a torn labrum in his right shoulder and will likely miss the entire 2007 season. Gimenez will fly to Houston to have the surgery on March 5 and stay there for much of his rehab with Astros trainers. "I'm disappointed, but I know that that's what it has to be, to be healthy again." Gimenez said. "That's what I want. Even though I know I'm ready for the surgery, I'm scared, too, because it's the first time that I've had surgery in my career. But I have to do it, and work hard to come back."
