Derrick Robinson sidelined 4-6 months after shoulder surgery

(2/25/2014) Free-agent outfielder Derrick Robinson is out four to six months after undergoing shoulder surgery Tuesday, MLBDailyDish.com reports.

Robinson was nontendered by the Reds in December after playing 102 games last season, hitting .255/.322/.323 with eight RBI and four stolen bases in 192 at-bats.

Robinson played in 102 games, hitting .255/.322/.323. Paul played in 97 games, hitting .244/.339/.402. Both players are now free-agents.

(7/20/2013) Reds outfielder Derrick Robinson was held out of the starting lineup Saturday against the Pirates as he continues to be bothered by a left shoulder injury, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Robinson, who routinely plays Saturdays, slid into home plate in an attempt at an inside-the-park home run July 9 at Milwaukee. He has played in four games since the injury and is hitting .222 (2 for 9) with a walk.

"I try to tell these guys, and all kids, no head-first slides into home plate," Baker said.

(6/21/2013) Reds outfielder Derrick Robinson returned to the leadoff spot Friday night against Wade Miley and the Diamondbacks. It's the third time in his last four games that Robinson has manned the leadoff spot.

Robinson is hitting .200 (4 for 20) in six games as the team's leadoff man. He has a .278 batting average and a .374 on-base percentage in 46 games.

"It's something I've done my whole life, especially coming up through the Minor Leagues," Robinson said, per MLB.com. "The main focus is getting on base."

Robinson finished 0 for 3 with a run scored in an 11-7 defeat. He has two hits in his last seven at-bats at the No. 2 spot in the lineup. He is hitting .321 with five RBI in 56 at-bats.

(5/30/2013) Reds outfielder Derrick Robinson moved to eighth in the batting order Thursday against the Indians due to an apparent leg injury.

Manager Dusty Baker considered moving Robinson to ninth in the order to put his speed ahead of leadoff man Shin-Soo Choo but was concerned about his injury. Baker did not give any further details on Robinson's injury.

"Robinson’s leg is bothering him," Baker said. "So I might not be able to run him and I might be able to use just his bat instead of his legs."

(5/10/2013) Reds outfielder Derrick Robinson, who has been limited by a sore oblique, said his injury is feeling better, MLB.com reports. Robinson, a switch hitter, was unable to hit from the left side earlier this week due to his ailment.

“I’m feeling a lot better. Today is the first day I can do everything,” Robinson said.

(3/31/2013) The Reds made several moves to finalize their roster for the regular season, reassigning second baseman Emmanuel Burriss, catcher Corky Miller and outfielders Denis Phipps and Derrick Robinson to their minor-league camp. Cincinnati also outrighted pitcher Jose Arredondo to Triple-A Louisville while optioning pitcher Logan Ondrusek to Double-A Pensacola.

Third baseman Jason Donald also was designated for assignment and the Reds purchased the contract of shortstop Cesar Izturis to take his place on the 40-man roster.
