Angels make a few roster moves Sunday

(8/3/2014) The Angels placed reliever Joe Thatcher on the 15-day disabled list Sunday after he suffered a sprained ankle Saturday against the Rays. 

The Angels made a few other changes to their bullpen. They optioned Michael Roth to Triple-A Salt Lake, while recalling Cam Bedrosian and Fernando Salas.

(7/26/2014) The Angels announced a pair of roster moves prior to Saturday's game against the Tigers, MLB.com reports.

The team recalled outfielder J.B Shuck from Triple-A Salt lake City. Shuck will be filling in part-time for the injured Josh Hamilton. In a corresponding move, the Angels have optioned reliever Fernando Salas down to Salt Lake City.

Salas has been on the disabled list since June 15 with inflammation in his right shoulder. He entered the game in the seventh inning and twirled a perfect frame while striking out one. He is expected to have a brief rehab stint before returning to the bullpen.

Manager Mike Scioscia told MLB.com Salas' bullpen session Tuesday didn't go as well as planned, leading the team to think he might need some time in the minors. Salas has now pitched since June 15 due to inflammation in his right shoulder.

(7/2/2014) Angels pitcher Fernando Salas was dealing with some soreness in his right shoulder Wednesday, which led the team to push his return from the disabled list back one day, reports MLB.com.  

Salas, who has been out since June 15 due to inflammation in the shoulder, was dealing with usual soreness Wednesday after throwing a bullpen session Tuesday. Since he would not be available out of the bullpen Wednesday, manager Mike Scioscia said he would likely come off the DL Thursday, in time for the start of a series against the Astros.

(12/2/2013) The Angels opted not to tender contracts to three players Monday, making them free agents. Pitchers Jerome Williams and Tommy Hanson, along with infielder Chris Nelson, will become free agents this offseason.

The Angels did tender contracts to five players, and will have a chance to negotiate deals for them prior to arbitration hearing. They are: infielders Mark Trumbo and David Freese, and pitchers Ernesto Frieri, Kevin Jepsen and Fernando Salas

(11/22/2013) Along with Peter Bourjos, the Cardinals acquired outfielder Randal Grichuk from the Red Sox Friday afternoon. Boston also acquired reliever Fernando Salas in addition to third baseman David Freese.

Grichuk owned a .256/.306/.474 slash line with 22 home runs and 64 RBI in 500 at-bats last season for Double-A Arkansas. Salas posted a 4.50 ERA in 28 appearances last season for St. Louis.
