Cubs add seven as rosters expand

(9/2/2014) The Cubs added seven players to their expanded roster Tuesday, the team announced.

The team called up pitchers Brian Schlitter, Dan Straily, Arodys Vizcaino and Zac Rosscup , along with outfielder Junior Lake , while selecting the contracts of pitcher Eric Jokisch and catcher Rafael Lopez from Triple-A Iowa. 


Cubs bring Brian Schlitter off DL, option him to Triple-A

(8/24/2014) The Cubs activated pitcher Brian Schlitter off the disabled list Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Iowa.

Schlitter hasn't pitched since Aug. 8 due to shoulder inflammation. He owns a 3.47 ERA and 25:15 K:BB ratio in 49 1/3 innings.

(8/22/2014) Cubs pitcher Brian Schlitter began his rehab assignment with a scoreless inning for the Arizona League Cubs Thursday, as he continues to work his way back from a shoulder injury. Schlitter has been out since Aug. 10 due to inflammation in his shoulder, and it is not clear when he is expected back.

Brian Schlitter charged with loss Friday

(7/19/2014) Cubs reliever Brian Schlitter (2-3) was charged with the blown save and loss Friday night against the Diamondbacks in Arizona.

The Diamondbacks rallied with a three-run sixth inning and Schlitter was charged with one of the three runs while allowing just two hits in one-third of an inning pitched. He owns a 3.16 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP over 42 2/3 innings of relief.

(6/17/2014) Cubs pitcher Brian Schlitter was charged with a loss Tuesday after giving up three earned runs on two hits and one walk in one inning and striking out one in his team's 6-5 defeat against the Marlins.

Schlitter (2-2) put two men on base before surrendering a three-run home run that put the Marlins in a 6-4 deficit. It was just the second home run the reliever has allowed in 31 appearances. Schlitter owns a 3.03 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 18:( K:BB ratio in 32 2/3 innings.

The latter might have stamped his ticket with a poor performance Friday night against Pittsburgh in which he surrendered three earned runs in 2/3 of an inning.

The 28-year-old Schlitter pitched briefly for the team in 2010, but was clobbered for 11 runs on 18 hits in eight innings.
