Angels make series of cuts by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(3/24/2013) The Angels made a series of roster moves and cuts Sunday, reports MLB.com. Los Angeles optioned infielder Thomas Field, outfielder Scott Cousins and reliever Nick Maronde to Triple-A Salt Lake. The team also reassigned relievers Chad Cordero and Kevin Johnson and outifelder Matt Young to minor-league camp.
Field hit just .200 this spring during Cactus League play. He could come back up for the Angels as a bench option at some point.
Cousins also hit just .200 this spring to earn his demotion. He should be considered outfield depth at Triple-A.
Maronde, who was able to put up a 2.26 ERA as a starter in 2012 in his first full season, will switch to a relief role at Triple-A. The Angels feel his stuff is better out of the bullpen. He struck out 11 batters this spring over 9 2/3 innings, but also walked seven and gave up 12 earned runs.
