Blue Jays to open season with three-man bench

(3/26/2014) The Blue Jays announced Wednesday they will go with a three-man bench to start the season. Catcher Josh Thole, infielder Maicer Izturis and outfielder Moises Sierra will be the team's three reserve players to begin the season.

(12/5/2013) Blue Jays outfielder Moises Sierra is likely to platoon at first base with Adam Lind next season, MLB.com reports. Sierra has only played the outfield in his career but recent began preparing for the platoon role by taking grounders at first base.

With Sierra out of options, he will likely have to hold his own as a platoon-mate with Lind to save his job in Toronto. He hit .290/.369/.458 in 107 at-bats last season and has hit .267/.327/.478 with four home runs and 10 RBI in 90 at-bats against lefties in his career.

(9/24/2013) Blue Jays outfielder Moises Sierra was removed from Tuesday's game against the Orioles with a left ankle injury. He appeared to suffer the injury when his foot stuck in the grass while fielding a fly ball.

Sierra could wind up being held out for the remainder of the season if the injury anything but minor. He has hit .290/.362/.484 with one home run and 11 RBI in 93 at-bats after going 0 for 2 Tuesday.

(9/14/2013) Blue Jays outfielder Moises Sierra had another solid game Saturday, driving in two runs in a 4-3 win over the Orioles.

Sierra put the Blue Jays up in the first inning with his two-run double. It was his only hit of the game, but he did walk once while finishing 1 for 2 with one run scored and two driven in.

Sierra is hitting .313/.366/.578 in 22 games, with 12 doubles and 11 RBI in 64 at-bats.

Sierra went 3 for 4 with his first triple and two doubles in the game. He drove in a run and has eight RBI on the year to go with his .291 average. Sierra also stole his first base of the season.

Sierra has gone 5 for 8 in his last two games with three doubles and has 10 extra-base hits over his last eight games.

(9/4/2013) Blue Jays outfielder Moises Sierra homered for the first time this season late in Tuesday's win in Arizona. Sierra took Eury De La Rosa deep for a two-run shot in the ninth.

Sierra, who got the start in right field, went 3 for 5 in the game with three RBI. He added an RBI double to deep center in the fifth inning. Sierra doubled twice in the game and is batting .265 after the three extra-base hits.

Sierra has played in 13 games for Toronto on the year. He went 0 for 13 at the plate over his first six contests. Sierra has since gone 9 for 21 (.429) over his last seven.

Sierra went 2 for 3 Tuesday at the Yankees and is now batting .294 (20 for 68) this season.
