Zeke Spruill pitching well despite lack of wins

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4/23/2013) Diamondbacks pitching prospect Zeke Spruill, who was acquired in the offseason as part of the Justin Upton trade with Atlanta, is having the toughest time picking up a win for Double-A Mobile. The right-handed hurler threw eight scoreless innings Monday against Mississippi, but took a no-decision, remaining 0-3 with a 1.35 ERA through four starts.

Spruill, who hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in any of his four starts, has struck out 16, walked nine and hasn't allowed a home run in 26 2/3 innings. He's allowed four earned runs and six hits.

"He's been very aggressive with his fastball and his command to both sides of the plate has been very good," Mobile pitching coach Dan Carlson said, per MLB.com. "He dominates with his fastball and his splitter, which is his punchout pitch."

Spruill is considered the Diamondbacks' 10th-best prospect by MLB.com.
