Dodgers complete Matt Kemp deal with Padres

(12/18/2014) The Dodgers and Padres have agreed to a deal that will send outfielder Matt Kemp to San Diego, confirms CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. News that the deal had finally come together was first reported by Yahoo!

The trade has been in the works for some time, but was dependent on Kemp passing a physical. It was reported early Thursday that Kemp's physical revealed arthritic hips. The Padres had to to figure out insurance on the contract, which is why it took so long for the deal to go through.

Catcher Tim Federowicz will also head to San Diego in the deal. The Dodgers will send $32 million over as well. 

In return, Los Angeles is set to receive catcher Yasmani Grandal and pitcher Joe Weiland and Zach Eflin. Eflin is expected to be flipped to Philadelphia for shortstop Jimmy Rollins.

The 30-year-old Kemp hit .287/.346/.506 over 541 at-bats last year. Kemp is set to earn a little over $21 million in each of the next five seasons. 


Report: Ethier deal between Dodgers, Diamondbacks falls through

(12/6/2014) A trade that would have sent Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier to the Diamondbacks fell through when Arizona's ownership declined to give final approval on the deal, FOXSports.com reports.

The proposed trade involved Ethier and catcher Tim Federowicz heading to the Diamondbacks in exchange for catcher Miguel Montero and lower-level prospects. The Dodgers were also reportedly ready to kick in cash in the deal to help offset Ethier's contract. They'll instead continue to shop around for the right deal to help clear a logjam in the outfield.


Dodgers make September call-ups

(9/1/2014) The Dodgers recalled outfielder Joc Pederson, second baseman Alex Guererro, catcher Tim Federowicz and pitcher Yimi Garcia Monday with rosters expanding in September.

Pederson closed out his first season with Triple-A Albuquerque by hitting .303/.435/.582 with 33 home runs, 78 RBI and 30 stolen bases in 445 at-bats.

In addition, the team activated pitcher Chris Perez from the disabled list. Perez has been out since Aug. 3 while nursing an ankle injury.

(6/7/2014) Dodgers catcher Tim Federowicz had just one hit in five at-bats Saturday, but that hit was his first home run of the season, with the catcher driving in three runs in his team's 5-4 loss to the Rockies.

Federowicz slugged his three-run shot to left center to give his team a brief 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh before the Rockeis tied the game in the bottom half of the inning and went on to win in 10 innings. It's been a slow season at the plate for Federowicz, who has hit .111/.158/.204 with just six hits in 54 at-bats.

Ellis underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Tuesday and is expected to be sidelined at least four weeks. Federowicz spent extensive time with the Dodgers last season, hitting .231/.275/.356 with four home runs and 16 RBI in 160 at-bats over 56 games.

Federowicz took starter Jhoulys Chacin deep for a solo home run in the third and slapped a two-run single in the sixth. He finished 2 for 5 with a run scored and three RBI in a 7-6 defeat in extras.

Federowicz is hitting .200 (2 for 10) in his last three games since his recall from Triple-A Alburquerque.

The team will need to clear a roster spot for Chad Billingsley, who is slated to pitch Wednesday. Since the team currently has three catchers, Federowicz is the most likely candidate to be demoted. 

Federowicz played Sunday, going 0 for 3 with a walk. He started the season as a backup for A.J. Eliis.

"He’s showed us he doesn’t belong in Triple-A any more," manager Don Mattingly said. 

Federowicz is hitting .167 with two RBI in 24 at-bats this spring.
