Jordan Norberto signs minor-league deal with Rays

(12/24/2013) Former Athletics pitcher Jordan Norberto has signed a minor-league deal with the Rays, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Norberto logged a career-high 52 innings and posted a 2.77 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP with the A's last season.

(12/11/2013) The Rays are considering signing pitcher Jordan Norberto , the Tampa Bay Times reports. Norberto is recovering from Tommy John surgery and was suspended in relation to the Biogenesis investigation.

Norberto last pitched in 2012 for the A's, going 4-1 with a 2.77 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 46:22 K:BB ratio in 52 innings.

Norberto is currently a free-agent, but was in camp with the Athletics earlier this season. He will not be able to serve his suspension until he's picked up by a club. Norberto is attempting to come back after Tommy John surgery.


Report: Biogensis discipline handed down

(8/5/2013) FOX Sports reports among the players accepting 50-game suspensions for their connection to the Biogenesis investigation are Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz, Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta, Phillies reliever Antonio Bastardo, Mets infielder Jordany Valdespin , Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera, Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli, Mariners catcher Jesus Montero, Mets outfielder Cesar Puello, Astros reliever Sergio Escalona, Padres reliever Fautino De Los Santos, Yankees outfielder Fernando Martinez and free-agent pitcher Jordan Norberto.

The report also states Athletics starting pitcher Bartolo Colon, Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal and Blue Jays outfielder Melky Cabrera will be dealt no additional discipline. Also, no violations were found against Nationals pitcher Gio Gonzalez and Orioles infielder Danny Valencia.


Jordan Norberto files grievance against Athletics

(6/21/2013) Former Athletics reliever Jordan Norberto has filed a grievance against the Athletics over the handling of his injured elbow, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Norberto claims his elbow was hurt before the Athletics optioned him to Triple-A Sacramento and therefore he should have remained on the major league roster instead of eventually being placed on the minor league disabled list. Norberto was eventually released by the Athletics.

Norberto underwent Tommy John surgery Thursday and isn't expected to resume pitching until March.

Norberto will likely be sidelined for a year while recovering from the operation.

Norberto pitched in the Athletics' minor-league system. He gave up six earned runs on seven walks during a three-game stretch.

Norberto was a key member of the club's bullpen last year. In 52 innings, he had a 2.77 ERA and a 3.90 FIP.

(4/15/2013) Athletics relief pitcher Jordan Norberto, who was just placed on the seven-day minor league disabled list, will miss around six weeks due to a left elbow strain, the San Francisco Chronicle reports Monday. 

Norberto will not require surgery and that is considered a positive development. Norberto is expected to pitch in relief with Triple-A Sacramento, when healthy enough to return.

(4/13/2013) Athletics pitcher Jordan Norberto was placed on the seven-day minor-league disabled list Saturday, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Norberto has started the season slowly with the River Cats. He's gone 0-1 in three appearances with a 40.50 ERA. He's allowed six runs on five hits and seven walks over 1 1/3 innings with four strikeouts.

He has a left elbow strain and has no timetable to return.

(2/11/2013) The San Francisco Chronicle reports A's reliever Jordan Norberto, who battled shoulder tendinitis at the end of last season, said he is completely recovered. He said the tendinitis cleared up after seven weeks of rehab in the Dominican Republic.
