(7/2/2014) The Yankees signed pitcher Edgmer Escalona to a minor-league deal Wednesday. Escalona was waived by the Orioles last week, after he put up a 6.10 ERA in 20 2/3 innings at Triple-A Norfolk.

Escalona relieved Kevin Gausman in the fifth inning and logged two innings of work. He yielded two runs -- one earned -- on three hits and one walk while striking out two in his first rehab work.

Escalona is on the 60-day disabled list after being sidelined with shoulder inflammation early in spring training. He went 1-4 with a 5.67 ERA and 34:14 K:BB ratio in 46 innings.

(3/30/2014) The Orioles made several roster moves Sunday as they finalized their opening day roster.

The Orioles placed four players on the 15-day disabled list. They were Michael Almanzar (left patellar tendinitis), infielder Manny Machado (knee surgery), outfielder Francisco Peguero (right wrist tendinitis) and outfielder Nolan Reimold (neck). They also placed pitcher Edgmer Escalona (shoulder) on the 60-day disabled list.

The Orioles also selected the contracts of outfielder Delmon Young and reliever Evan Meek, while pitcher Mike Belfiore was desginated for assignment and Johan Santana, who is recovering from shoulder surgery, was reassigned to minor-league camp.

Escalona was knocked around during his only appearance of the spring, surrendering five runs in one inning Saturday. He's unlikely to return to action until the final week of exhibition games. Escalona posted a 5.67 ERA in 46 innings last season.

(8/2/2013) Rockies reliever Edgmer Escalona is dealing with sore left calf after being hit by a line drive in Thursday's game against the Braves. He was seen limping in the locker room after the game and could require a trip to the disabled list, the Denver Post reports.

Escalona allowed five runs over one-third of an inning in Thursday's 11-2 loss to Atlanta. He has allowed seven earned runs over his last inning of work. His ERA has ballooned from 4.39 to 5.79 over that span (three appearances).

Escalona is still likely to require a minor-league rehab assignment, as the team needs to see him throw multiple innings at a time before bringing him back from the DL.

Escalona surrendered home runs to Cameron Maybin and Mark Kotsay before leaving after 1/3 of an inning in the seventh. He will undergo a precautionary MRI Monday, which the team will reveal to the public Tuesday, according to The Denver Post.

Nicasio and Escalona got into an argument during stretching exercises, but teammates intervened quickly. Closer Rafael Betancourt brought the two together during batting practice to bury the hatchet. Neither player will be disciplined for the incident.

(3/19/2013) Rockies relief pitcher Edgmer Escalona returned after a nine-day layoff Tuesday in a Cactus League outing against the Royals. Escalona pitched the seventh inning and earned a hold. He was hurt after taking a comebacker to the head during a simulated game but did not have concussion symptoms. 

Escalona went 1-2-3 with a strikeout Tuesday, making his spring ERA 1.50 over six innings with seven Ks. Escalona, on the 40-man roster, is trying to win a bullpen job.
