Pedro Baez making smooth transition to pitcher's mound

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(1/30/2014) Infielder-turned-reliever Pedro Baez was one of the Dodgers' top performers during the team's minicamp last week, per MLB.com.

"It wouldn't shock me if we see him this year if somebody went down," Dodgers assistant pitching coach Ken Howell said of Baez. "He's got a good feel for pitching. He doesn't fight his delivery. He's about the same as Kenley (Jansen) at this point. Kenley might have had a better feel being a former catcher. Pedro naturally throws hard, but he's starting to understand changing speeds and is showing a feel for a second pitch."

Dodgers add three to 40-man roster

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11/20/2013) The Dodgers added pitchers Pedro Baez, Yimi Garcia and Jarret Martin to the 40-man roster Wednesday.

Baez went 3-3 with a 3.88 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 55:23 K:BB ratio over 58 innings between high Class A Rancho Cucamonga and Double-A Chattanooga in his first season since being converted from an infielder to a pitcher. Garcia went 4-6 with a 2.54 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 85:14 K:BB ratio in 60 1/3 innings with Double-A Chattanooga. Martin went 6-7 with a 4.30 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 106:62 K:BB ratio in 96 1/3 innings between high Class A Rancho Cucamonga and Double-A Chattanooga.

Baez no longer position player

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2/5/2013) MLB.com reports Dodgers prospect Pedro Baez is being transitioned from a third baseman to a relief pitcher. "They put him on the mound in instructional league and that fastball is really strong," pitching coach Rick Honeycutt said of Baez. "You talk about Kenley (Jansen) when you see the ball come out of his hand. He hasn't been overwhelmed by thinking too much about pitching. He just sees the glove and throws it and that's kind of refreshing."
