Astros activate Springer, Oberholtzer; option Chapman, Grossman

(5/12/2015) The Astros announced several roster moves following Tuesday's loss to San Francisco. The club optioned reliever Kevin Chapman and outfielder Robbie Grossman down to Triple-A. Starter Brett Oberholtzer and outfielder George Springer was activated from the disabled list. Springer's transaction won't become official until Wednesday, per the team's official website.

Astros DH Evan Gattis not in Sunday's lineup

(5/10/2015) Astros designated hitter Evan Gattis is not in Sunday's starting lineup against the Angels. 

For Gattis, it's most likely a day off. Against the Angels on Saturday, Gattis went 0 for 3 at the plate. He holds just a .185 batting average so far this season. Preston Tucker will serve as Houston's DH against the Angels. 

Robbie Grossman will play in left field and bat ninth. After taking Saturday off, catcher Jason Castro returns to the lineup and will bat sixth. Castro has recorded a hit in eight of his last 10 games. 


Astros RF George Springer (head) not in lineup Wednesday

(5/6/2015) As expected, Astros right fielder George Springer was not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers. Springer was removed from Tuesday's contest after crashing into the right-field wall making a catch. 

He has been evaluated for a concussion, but no official diagonsis has been announced as of yet. Robbie Grossman started in right field for manager A.J. Hinch on Wednesday. 


Astros OF Colby Rasmus out of lineup with lefty on the mound

(5/4/2015) With left-hander Ross Detwiler on the mound for the Rangers, Astros outfielder Colby Rasmus was held out of the starting lineup by manager A.J. Hinch on Monday, the team announced. Rasmus has struggled against lefties, hitting just .211 in 19 at-bats against southpaws this season.

Overall, however, Rasmus has been hitting well. In his last 10 games, he his batting .270 with three home runs and seven RBI. Robbie Grossman received the start in left field on Monday.

(4/10/2015) Astros manager A.J. Hinch chose to roll with Jonathan Villar at third base and Robbie Grossman in left field Friday night against left-hander Derek Holland and the Rangers, per MLB.com. Luis Valbuena and Colby Rasmus received a day off against the southpaw.

Hinch also flip-flopped struggling DH Evan Gattis and Chris Carter in the batting order. Gattis has started his stint with the Astros 0 for 11 with eighth strikeouts. He will hit fifth, while Carter will move to the cleanup spot.

(3/26/2015) Though he told reporters that his sprained ankle has gotten better, Astros outfielder Jonathan Villar was held out of workouts on Thursday as a precaution, according to MLB.com. Meanwhile, Robbie Grossman (quadriceps contusion) could return to action as early as Friday.

Both outfielders were involved in an outfield collision on Wednesday. Villar took the legs out from under Grossman while making a sliding catch in the fourth inning against the Phillies. 

Houston will face the Marlins on Friday.


Astros' Villar, Grossman collide in outfield, leave game as precaution

(3/25/2015) Astros outfielders Robbie Grossman (quadriceps contusion) and Jonathan Villar (ankle sprain) left Wednesday's game against the Phillies after colliding into each other in the fourth inning.

The injuries are not considered serious as the player removals were precautionary.

Villar, starting in center field, took the legs out from under Grossman while making a sliding catch. 

"I just banged my knee against him," Grossman said.

Villar is hitting .281 with eight RBI this spring while seeing time at shortstop, second base, third base and centerfield. 

Grossman is hitting .389 with one homer and two doubles.

(1/19/2015) The trade of Dexter Fowler opens up a starting job in center field for the Astros. Jake Marisnick or George Springer will likely start in center field, with the other playing in right field. Alex Presley and Robbie Grossman could also be backup options in center field.

"It's something [manager] A.J. [Hinch] and the staff is going to have to work through," general manager Jeff Luhnow said, per MLB.com. "Marisnick is a natural center fielder, and it's possible he's our opening day center fielder. Who knows? I think it's nice having guys with versatility."

(8/30/2014) After missing one game with an ankle injury, Astros outfielder Robbie Grossman is back in the team's lineup for Saturday's game against the Rangers.

Grossman is batting leadoff and starting in left field against Texas, after recovering from the injury that forced him out Wednesday. Grossman is hitting .237/.339/.344 in the month of August, with 14 walks and 12 RBI.

Grossman remains day to day moving forward, and Thursday's off-day apparently did not give him enough time to get back to full health. His status for the rest of the weekend series is not yet known.

Grossman injured his ankle during Wednesday's game. He was able to play through the game, but was fairly sore Thursday. Grossman is hitting .215/.330/.325 over 265 at-bats.

(7/30/2014) Robbie Grossman has just two hits in his last 17 at-bats for the Astros, but the second of those hits was a doozy. It traveled over the fence in the first inning to complete a blitz that gave his team a 6-0 lead.

Grossman also walked twice in the rout to improve his on-base percentage to .313, which is strong when considering he owns a .195 batting average. He has 29 walks in 170 at-bats this season.

(7/8/2014) Outfielder Robbie Grossman is back up with the Astros. He has been promoted from Triple-A Oklahoma City to replace Alex Presley, who is destined for the disabled list with an oblique injury.

Grossman, who was sent down just two weeks ago, struggled at the big league level this season with a stat line of .158/.273/.263 and an eight-game hitless run before his demotion.

(4/16/2014) The Astros have removed ace Scott Feldman from the bereavement list and optioned outfielder Robbie Grossman to Triple-A Oklahoma City as part of a flurry of moves made on Wednesday.

Feldman, who owns a 2-0 record and 0.44 ERA, is set to start Thursday against Kansas City. Grossman has heated up with four hits, including two home runs, in his last 16 at-bats after a horrific start. But he is still batting .125 on the season.

(4/13/2014) The Astros received a big boost from Robbie Grossman's second home run in three days Saturday, in a 6-5 win over the Rangers.

Grossman capped off a big fourth inning to put the Astros up with a three-run home run to right. He finished the game 2 for 4 overall with one run scored and three drive in, as the Astros won in extra innings.

Grossman has just one RBI and one extra-base hit through the season's first 10 games, but has come alive recently. He is still hitting just .122/.250/.341 through 12 games.

Grossman took Toronto ace R.A. Dickey deep for a two-run home run fifth inning. He finished 1 for 2 with two walks, two runs scored and an RBI. He is hitting .088 (3 for 34) with one home run and three RBI in 10 games.

(3/26/2014) Outfielder Robbie Grossman has used his penchant for a high on-base percentage to land the second spot in the Astros lineup. Jose Altuve had been slated for that spot heading into spring training, but he will bat cleanup behind catcher Jason Castro.

Grossman posted a .381 OBP throughout his minor league career and managed a .351 mark in that department after his second callup by Houston last season.

Grossman hit .268 with a .332 on-base percentage in 63 games as a rookie last season, but hit .322 in his second stint with the Astros.

"At this point, given the amount of time he's missed, I think it's not wise to rush him back and play him a couple of games," general manager Jeff Luhnow said Tuesday.

Grossman finishes the season with a .268/.332/.370 line, four home runs, 21 RBI and six stolen bases in 257 at-bats.
