(7/17/2014) The Pirates announced Thursday outfielder Starling Marte was reinstated from the bereavement list. To clear a roster spot, outfielder Jaff Decker was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis.

The Pirates also reassigned Robert Andino, Chris Dickerson, Jay Jackson, Michael MartinezOmir Santos, Daniel Schlereth, Zack Thornton and Adam Wilk to minor-league camp.


Padres and Pirates make two-for-one deal

(11/25/2013) The Padres traded reliever Miles Mikolas and outfielder Jaff Decker to the Pirates in exchange for minor league outfielder Alex Dickerson on Monday.

Mikolas appeared in only two games for the Padres in 2013, but as a rookie in 2012, he posted a 3.62 ERA in 25 appearances.

Decker made his major league debut this season, going 4 for 26 (.154) with one home run.

The 23-year-old Dickerson played for Double-A Altoona, batting .288 with 17 home runs, 68 RBI and 10 stolen bases.

(11/21/2013) The Padres added minor-league pitchers Keyvius Sampson, Juan Oramas and Donn Roach to the 40-man roster Wednesday. The team also designated outfielder Jaff Decker and pitchers Brad Brach, Miles Mikolas and Jose De Paula for assignment.

Sampson went 12-7 with a 3.57 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 135:62 K:BB ratio in 141 1/3 innings between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Tuscon last season. Oramas went 3-2 with a 3.07 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 64:16 K:BB ratio in 55 2/3 innings over 12 starts with Double-A San Antonio. Roach went 8-12 with a 3.53 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 77:40 K:BB ratio in 142 2/3 innings over 28 starts with Double-A San Antonio.

Decker went 4 for 26 with the Padres last season, hitting one home run and driving two in. Brach made 33 appearances for the Padres, going 1-0 with a 3.19 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 31:19 K:BB ratio in 31 innings. Mikolas made two scoreless appearances for the Padres. De Paula went 4-6 with a 3.86 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 57:11 K:BB ratio in 74 2/3 innings over 14 starts with Double-A San Antonio.


Padres bring up Reymond Fuentes, option Jaff Decker

(8/26/2013) The Padres selected the contract of outfielder Reymond Fuentes Monday, MLB.com reports. The team optioned outfielder Jaff Decker to Triple-A Tucson in the corresponding roster move

The 22-year-old Fuentes has spent most of his season at Double-A San Antonio. He's combined to hit .330 with six homers, 43 RBI and 35 stolen bases over 107 games at Double- and Triple-A. 

The 23-year-old Decker heads back to Tucson after hitting .154 over 26 at-bats with a homer and two RBI in his first cup of coffee in the majors.

Decker has hit .174/.259/.304 with one home run and two RBI in 23 at-bats with the Padres and .293/.389/.450 with nine home runs and 38 RBI in 331 at-bats with Triple-A Tuscon.

Decker, 23, is hitting .251/.370/.399 with five home runs over 183 at-bats at Triple-A Tucson. He was ranked in Baseball America's top 100 prospects heading into 2010 but has struggled in the minor leagues since, as he has just a .763 OPS at Double-A and Triple-A combined. The Padres hope the former first-round pick will rediscover the magic at the major-league level.
