by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(5/20/2013) Padres outfielder James Darnell could need another surgery on his injured left shoulder, MLB.com reports Monday. Darnell injured the shoulder with Triple-A Tucson May 14.

James Darnell plays the field at Triple-A

by Ed Gauna | CBSSports.com
(5/1/2013) Padres outfielder James Darnell played the field for Triple Tucson Tuesday, his first time doing so since beginning his rehab assignment, MLB.com reports. The 26-year-old has been sidelined since spring training due to a left oblique injury.

"He seems to be over his oblique," manager Bud Black said. "I think he's right about now probably considered a healthy player working his way back to the major leagues, based on performance."

(4/30/2013) Padres third basemen James Darnell, who is on the 15-day disabled list with an oblique injury, started a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Tucson Monday night. He went 1 for 4 with a double and two strikeouts for the Padres.

Padres place James Darnell on 15-day disabled list

by Jack Moore | CBSSports.com
(3/31/2013) The Padres have placed James Darnell on the 15-day disabled list, the club announced.

With both Chase Headley and Logan Forsythe out with injuries to begin the season, Darnell could have earned some at-bats in April at third base for San Diego. Instead, a strained left oblique pushes him to the DL as well, where he'll likely miss about another two weeks.

The Padres will use Cody Ransom and Jedd Gyorko at third base until Headley returns.

Injury costing James Darnell opportunity

by Ed Gauna | CBSSports.com
(3/20/2013) Padres prospect James Darnell has been slowed by a strained left oblique during camp and it could have cost him a big opportunity. With Chase Headley expected to miss the first few weeks of the regular season, Darnell, a third baseman by trade, has not been able to get work at the hot corner.

"I don't view it as bad luck. I just want to be effective and help the team win," he said. "In this game, you have to have a short memory and keep plugging away. All the other stuff is in the past."

Darnell batted .267 with seven homers, 21 RBI and a .500 slugging percentage in 31 games at Triple-A Tucson last season.

Shoulder a non-issue for Darnell

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2/14/2013) MLB.com reports Padres prospect James Darnell, who has undergone shoulder surgery twice in the last two years, said his shoulder is healthy and he feels strong heading into camp. "They did a great job. They tightened it to the point where it can't move around, in the front and back," Darnell said. "Both of [the injuries] were the result of playing hard, and that just happens. But you just keep going. It's behind me now. It feels really strong. All the muscles are strong."
