Reds activate pitcher from DL, option two to minors

(8/18/2014) The Reds activated reliever Logan Ondrusek (shoulder) off the 15-day disabled list Monday. They team also announced they optioned catcher Tucker Barnhart and pitcher Dylan Axelrod to Triple-A Louisville.

(8/16/2014) Reds pitcher Logan Ondrusek began a minor-league rehab assignment Friday night with Triple-A  Louisville. Working his way back from a strained right shoulder, Ondrusek pitched a scoreless frame, allowing only two hits. It remains to be seen if he'll be reinstated right away or stay in Louisville for another outing.

(8/12/2014) Reds pitcher Logan Ondrusek tossed a simulated game Tuesday, according to MLB.com.

Ondrusek tossed 34 pitches during the outing. He's attempting to come back from a strained right shoulder. Ondrusek hasn't pitched since July 13 due to the issue. He is set to throw in a minor-league game Friday and could join the major-league club Saturday.

(8/6/2014) Reds pitcher Logan Ondrusek threw a bullpen session Wednesday for the first time since hitting the disabled list with a shoulder strain, MLB.com reports.

"He was very impressive," manager Bryan Price said. "I imagine he'll probably throw another bullpen here probably on Friday or Saturday and reassess. He's not so far removed from competition that he'd need an extended rehab or anything like that. We'll have to decide if he needs a rehab outing or two, or not."

Ondrusek last pitched before the All-Star break, so he is eligible to be activated at any time.


Logan Ondrusek resumes throwing program Tuesday

(7/29/2014) Reds pitcher Logan Ondrusek resumed a throwing program Tuesday, playing catch on the outfield grass, MLB.com reports. He has been out since July 13 with a strained shoulder.

"He still had just a bit of soreness [Monday], so that's a good sign," manager Bryan Price said. "There will be a throwing protocol. He's going to have to take some steps as far as effort level, long toss and bullpen to be able to sign off on reactivation. If we activate him and he's sore in his first outing, we have to put him back on for 15 days."

Ondrusek owns a 4.31 ERA and 29:13 K:BB ratio in 31 1/3 innings.

(6/17/2014) Reds pitcher Logan Ondrusek was credited with a win Tuesday after giving up no runs on two hits and one walk in 1 1/3 innings while striking out two in his team's 6-5 victory over the Pirates.

While Ondrusek (2-2) wasn't charged with a run, he did allow the game-tying run to cross the plate on one of his two hits after inheriting two baserunners in the seventh inning to earn a second straight blown save. He pitched a clean eighth before the Reds took the lead in the top of the ninth. Ondrusek owns a 4.26 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 23:11 K:BB ratio in 25 1/3 innings.

(5/20/2014) Reds pitcher Logan Ondrusek (1-2) picked up the win Monday night in extras against the Nationals.

Ondrusek allowed a run-scoring single to Greg Dobbs in the 15th for his only damage of the night, as he managed to hang on to a 4-3 win. He surrendered one run on three hits and one walk while striking out one in one inning of work. He owns a 5.40 ERA and a 1.95 WHIP in 13 1/3 innings.


Logan Ondrusek hit with loss vs. Red Sox Tuesday

(5/6/2014) Reds pitcher Logan Ondrusek was charged with a loss Tuesday after giving up one earned run on four hits in one-plus inning of work and striking out one in his team's 4-3, 12-inning loss to the Red Sox.

Ondrusek (0-2) did a solid job in the 11th inning but was sent out for a second inning of work, in which he immediately surrendered three straight singles, the last of which scored the winning run for the Red Sox. Ondrusek owns a 6.48 ERA and 7:2 K:BB ratio in 8 1/3 innings.

Ondrusek (0-1) had pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings before taking the loss Tuesday. He now owns a 5.40 ERA and 2:1 K:BB ratio on the season.

Ondrusek was 2-0 with a 5.64 ERA for the Reds earlier in the season, but has thrown 10 1/3 scoreless innings between Double-A and Triple-A.

(6/29/2013) If the Reds are forced to place Johnny Cueto on the disabled list due to a lat injury suffered Friday, MLB.com reports the team would recall reliever Logan Ondrusek from Triple-A Louisville to take his place on the roster.

Cueto returned to Cincinnati to be evaluated by the team doctor, and the results of the exam will determine whether Ondrusek makes his return to the big-league club. Ondrusek was 2-0 with a 5.64 ERA in 21 appearances earlier in the season. He has thrown eight scoreless innings in Triple-A.

Ondrusek's option comes one day after one of his worst outings of the year. He allowed four runs in just one inning Friday against the Cardinals. He had a 5.64 ERA on the season.

(4/10/2013) The Reds have recalled reliever Logan Ondrusek, the club announced.

Ondrusek, 28, has spent the entirety of his three-year MLB career in Cincinnati with a 3.45 ERA (118 ERA+) in 174 2/3 innings. He was sent down to Double-A before the season to work on some mechanical flaws that popped up in spring training, and he gave up just one hit in 2 1/3 innings of work.

Ondrusek replaces Sean Marshall, who was placed on the DL with shoulder tendinitis, in the Reds' bullpen.


Reds complete roster for opener

(3/31/2013) The Reds made several moves to finalize their roster for the regular season, reassigning second baseman Emmanuel Burriss, catcher Corky Miller and outfielders Denis Phipps and Derrick Robinson to their minor-league camp. Cincinnati also outrighted pitcher Jose Arredondo to Triple-A Louisville while optioning pitcher Logan Ondrusek to Double-A Pensacola.

Third baseman Jason Donald also was designated for assignment and the Reds purchased the contract of shortstop Cesar Izturis to take his place on the 40-man roster.
