Blake Wood attempting to win bullpen spot this spring

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(2/25/2014) Indians pitcher Blake Wood is healthy and hoping to win a spot in the team's opening-day bullpen, MLB.com reports.

Wood underwent Tommy John surgery in May 2012 and signed with the Indians before the 2013 season while still in the middle of his rehab.

"I'm as thankful as I could ever be to an organization," Wood said on Tuesday. "Really, at that point, it's like they're not getting me for last year. It was more for this year. That's the way I took it. Hopefully I can repay the favor to them and show them that they made a good investment."

Wood is one of the hardest throwers out of the Indians' potential candidates for the remaining spots in the bullpen, averaging over 97 mph on his fastball in two September appearances last season. He hasn't seen significant major-league action since 2011 with the Royals.
