Blake Parker shuttled back to Triple-A

(8/22/2014) Cubs pitcher Blake Parker was sent right back down to Triple-A Iowa following the conclusion of the team's doubleheader, for which he served as the 26th man.

Parker appeared in Thursday's game, allowing two hits and striking out two batters over one scoreless inning of relief. It lowered his season ERA to 6.08 in 13 1/3 innings.

Parker was added for Game 2 of the team's doubleheader. He'll likely be optioned to the minors following the game. Parker has a 6.57 ERA over 12 1/3 innings in the majors.

(8/1/2014) The Cubs announced several roster moves prior to Friday's game against the Dodgers, per MLB.com. The team added newly-acquired pitcher Felix Doubront to the actove roster and immediately placed him on the 15-day disabled list with a calf strain.

The team also recalled reliever Blake Parker and Chris Valaika from Triple-A Iowa. Valaika batted .278 with 10 homers, 21 doubles and 50 RBI at Iowa.

Parker tossed two strong innings during the outing. He gave up just one hit, and struck out three batters. The Cubs were able to score two runs following Parker's first inning of work, and the team decided to keep him in to nail down the win. He's now 1-0 on the year.

(4/13/2014) Cubs manager Rick Renteria said Sunday he will use Pedro Strop, Blake Parker, Hector Rondon and Justin Grimm in save situations after removing Jose Veras from the closer's role.

Rusin allowed one run on three hits and one walk while striking out one over five innings pitched in a 10-4 defeat.


Cubs dispatch two to minors

(3/22/2014) The Cubs have optioned outfielder Casper Wells and right-hander Blake Parker to the minors. The latter is headed to Triple-A Iowa.

Wells played with four different teams in 2013 before landing with the Cubs. He batted a meager .126 in 95 at-bats after serving as a contributor with Detrot and Seattle the previous two seasons.

(6/30/2013) Cubs reliever Blake Parker, who earned his first save of the season in Saturday's extra-innings win, is an option to close if the team trades reliever Kevin Gregg.

"It'd be tough to replace," Cubs manager Dale Sveum told MLB.com regarding Gregg. "He's done a great job. I guess maybe you could look at [Blake] Parker because he's done it in Triple-A, if those things come to light. You've got to use somebody. It'll be a wait-and-see situation."

Parker has a 2.19 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 15:5 K:BB ratio in 12 1/3 innings since making his 2013 debut on June 1. He has 66 career minor-league saves.

Parker needed just 12 pitches as he struck out one in a perfect 11th inning to secure a 5-3 win. He has a 2.19 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP over his first 11 appearances.
