Tigers trim roster by five

(3/30/2010) The Tigers assigned catcher Robinzon Diaz, first baseman Jeff Larish, relievers Robbie Weinhardt and Josh Rainwater to the minor leagues Tuesday. Shortstop Brent Dlugach was optioned to Triple-A. The cuts made it official that rookie catcher Alex Avila has made the team as a backtop to Gerald Laird. "I'm super excited to be able to continue to develop at the major league level rather than in the minor leagues," Avila told the MLive.com. "Now I can continue to learn from Gerald, and catch Justin, Max and Rick."
