Frank Herrmann clears waivers, heading to Triple-A

(4/8/2014) Indians reliever Frank Herrmann has cleared waivers, and will head to Triple-A Columbus, according to WTAM.

The 29-year-old Herrmann is currently the longest-tenured player within the organization. He signed with the club as an amateur free-agent in 2005.

(3/30/2014) The Indians announced several roster moves Sunday as they finalize their opening day roster.

The Indians purchased the contracts of reliever Scott Atchison, DH Jason Giambi and outfielder Nyjer Morgan. They also placed Michael Bourn (left hamstring strain) and Giambi (rib fracture) on the 15-day disabed list.

Pitchers Frank Herrmann and Colt Hynes were designated for assignment. Outfielder Matt Carson and infielder Ryan Rohlinger were reassigned to minor-league camp.

(3/15/2014) Indians pitcher Frank Herrmann couldn't make it past the opening frame in his first start of the spring on Saturday against the Diamondbacks.

Herrmann surrendered a two-run home run to Paul Goldschmidt and a solo shot to Martin Prado in the opening frame before he was removed from the game. He allowed three runs on four hits and no walks over 2/3 of an inning. He has yielded six runs over 1 2/3 innings pitched.

Herrmann was making his spring debut in Wednesday's game as he continues to work his way back from Tommy John surgery. He's competing for a spot in the opening-day bullpen.

Herrmann will be fighting to make the team's opening-day bullpen. He made 15 appearances for the Indians in 2012, posting a 2.33 ERA and 14:4 K:BB ratio in 19 1/3 innings.

(4/3/2013) The Indians have transferred right-handed pitcher Frank Herrmann to the 60-day disabled list, the club announced Wednesday.

Herrmann, 28, is rehabilitating from Tommy John surgery and will miss the 2013 season. The move opens up a roster spot for incoming waiver claim Robert Whitenack, a right-handed pitcher from the Cubs' organization.

Tommy John surgery is a definite possibility for Herrmann at this point, though he wants to keep pitching this year.
