Miguel Gonzalez crushed by Tigers Friday

(4/4/2014) Orioles pitcher Miguel Gonzalez was hit hard by the Tigers Friday.

Gonzalez was able to get through the first unscathed, but ran into some trouble in the second inning. After a leadoff double, Gonzalez walked Alex Avila. He then gave up another double, which scored a run. Three runs wound up scoring in the inning. On top of that,Gonzalez hit a batter and threw a wild pitch. 

After a relatively quiet third, Gonzalez surrendered a big three-run home run in the fourth. Two batters later he allowed a solo shot to Torii Hunter and was removed from the game.

Gonzalez gave up seven earned run on nine hits during the outing. He walked one and struck out one over 3 1/3 innings, earning the loss. Gonzalez's next start will come against the Yankees.


White Sox send eight down

(3/12/2014) Southpaw Charlie Leesman headlines a group of eight White Sox demoted to the minors on Wednesday. He was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte after appearing in eight games and starting one with Chicago in 2013.

Outfielders Trayce Thompson and Jared Mitchell were sent to Double-A Birmingham while catcher Miguel Gonzalez, pitchers Deunte Heath , Omar Poveda and Scott Snodgrass and outfielder Keenyn Walker were reassigned to minor league camp.


Miguel Gonzalez to push back bullpen session

(2/16/2014) Orioles pitcher Miguel Gonzalez will not throw a bullpen session Sunday, according to MLB.com.

Gonzalez tweaked his back covering first base during a drill. He said he'll probably throw again in a day or two, so the issue doesn't sound serious. Gonzalez posted a 3.78 ERA in 171 1/3 innings last year.


White Sox hand out 21 invites to spring training

(1/21/2014) The White Sox announced Tuesday they handed out 21 non-roster invites to spring training. The list was headlined by prospects Micah Johnson and Chris Beck, who are considered among the White Sox's top 10 prospects by Baseball America.

The 11 pitchers invited to spring training were Beck, Dylan Axelrod, Chris Bassitt, Parker Frazier, Brian Omogrosso, Omar Poveda, David Purcey, Zach Putnam, Mauricio Robles and Scott Snodgress.

The remaining spring invites included three catchers -- Hector Gimenez, Miguel Gonzalez, Kevan Smith -- four infielders -- Johnson, Alex Liddi, Mike McDade, Andy Wilkins -- and three outfielders -- Denis Phipps, Blake Tekotte, Keenyn Walker.

(9/2/2013) The White Sox have called up catcher Miguel A. Gonzalez from Triple-A Charlotte, MLB.com reports. Gonzalez hit .280/.345/.340 in 50 at-bats for Charlotte and will serve as an emergency backup catcher for Chicago.
