Eduardo Sanchez has stress fracture in elbow

(2/27/2014) Tigers pitcher Eduardo Sanchez has a stress fracture in his elbow, according to mlive.com.

Sanchez will be out for an extended period of time. Sanchez threw just four pitches before he had to be removed from Wednesday's game. Last season, he tossed just 6 1/3 innings in the majors.

(2/26/2014) Brad Ausmus has announced that Tigers right-hander Eduardo Sanchez has injured his elbow and will be examined on Thursday, per MLB.com. The early December pickup is seeking a spot in the bullpen, but any missed time could end those hopes.

The 24-year-old has struggled with control in short stints with the Cardinals and Cubs. He has given up just 30 hits in 51 1/3 innings, but has also walked 34.


Tigers ink three to minor league deals

(12/2/2013) Baseball America reports that the Tigers signed first baseman Mike Hessman and relievers Eduardo Sanchez and Patrick McCoy to minor league deals.

Hessman was in the Reds' system for 2013, and he batted .240 with 25 home runs for Triple-A Louisville. Sanchez spent most of the season with the Triple-A affiliates of the Cardinals and Cubs, but he did make four appearances for the Cubs. McCoy, pitching in the Nationals' organization, split his time between Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Syracuse, going 2-1 with a 5.06 ERA.


As rosters expand, Cubs make roster moves Sunday

(9/1/2013) The Cubs made a few roster moves Sunday as rosters expanded. The Cubs activated outfielder Ryan Sweeney (rib) and infielder Luis Valbuena (oblique) from the disabled list, while recalling pitcher Alberto Cabrera from Triple-A Iowa.

In order to make room for Sweeney on the 40-man roster, reliever Eduardo Sanchez was designated for assignment. Sweeney was on the 60-day disabled list.

(7/26/2013) The Cubs purchased the contract of reliever Eduardo Sanchez from Triple-A Iowa Friday, to take the roster space vacated by Alfonso Soriano's trade to the Yankees.

Sanchez has a 3.70 ERA in 24 1/3 innings at Iowa, and will make his season debut whenever the Cubs opt to use him out of the pen.  He has a 3.40 ERA in 45 career innings in the majors,  across two seasons with the Cardinals.

(5/21/2013) The Cubs claimed reliever Eduardo Sanchez off waivers from the Cardinals Tuesday. Sanchez, who will be assigned to Triple-A Iowa, had a 3.72 ERA and one save in nine relief appearances for Triple-A Memphis.

Sanchez, who pitched in the majors from 2011-12, is 3-2 with a 3.40 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and five saves in 43 career appearances. He has struck out 48 batters in 45 innings.

(6/30/2012) The Cardinals made a couple of moves Saturday to try to shore up their bullpen, optioning relievers Eduardo Sanchez and Sam Freeman to Triple-A Memphis, while recalling Maikel Cleto and purchasing the contract of Barret Browning from Memphis. The team moved Kyle McClellan to the 60-day disabled list to make room on the 40-man roster.
