Braves sign pitcher Michael Kohn to minor-league deal

(12/3/2014) The Braves have signed pitcher Michael Kohn to a minor-league deal.

Kohn posted a 3.04 ERA over 23 2/3 innings with the Angels last season. He was picked up by the Rays earlier in the offseason, but was pushed off the 40-man roster and elected to become a free-agent.

(12/2/2014) Pitcher Michael Kohn has elected free agency after being designated for assignment by the Rays, according to SB Nation. Kohn signed a major-league contract with Tampa Bay earlier in the offseason. He posted a 3.04 ERA over 23 2/3 innings of work last season with the Angels.

Kohn has twice cleared waivers, but could get a chance in spring training to earn a spot on the 40-man roster or land with the big club.

The team designated Cole Figueroa, Michael Kohn and Jose Molina for assignment, freeing up space on the roster. The team then added Matt AndrieseRyan Brett , Grayson Garvin, Mikie Mahtook  and Justin O’Conner to the 40-man roster.

Kohn elected free agency in September after being removed from the Angels 40-man roster. He's posted a 3.67 ERA over 110 1/3 career innings.

(5/25/2014) Angels relief pitcher Michael Kohn was awarded a relief win Sunday afternoon against the Royals.

Kohn worked his way around a walk in a scoreless eighth inning before Ernesto Frieri locked the down the save in the ninth. He owns a 2.11 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP in 21 1/3 innings of relief.

(4/28/2014) Angels relief pitcher Michael Kohn was pegged with the loss Sunday night against the Yankees in New York.

Kohn struggled to find the strike zone as he allowed a run to score on a wild pitch and was yanked after one-third of an inning. He allowed one unearned run on no hits and two walks while striking out in a 3-2 defeat. He owns a 1.35 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP over 13 1/3 innings.

Kohn (1-0) needed just 10 pitches and recorded one strikeout in a perfect 10th inning. The Angels scored a run in the bottom of the frame on a walkoff hit by pitch. Kohn has allowed two runs over his first 4 2/3 innings pitched this season.

(7/31/2013) After Angels closer Ernesto Frieri blew his second save in two chances Tuesday against Texas, the club is considering moving to a closer-by-committee system, MLB.com reports.

Frieri has allowed 14 baserunners of his last 20 batters faced over his last four appearances and has seen his ERA balloon from 2.76 to 4.20 over that span. Manager Mike Scioscia said Frieri's confidence "might be a little dinged" and suggested he would attempt to play matchups in the ninth inning going forward. 

Dane De La Rosa, who has been pitching the eighth inning and owns a 3.93 ERA, could get some looks. Michael Kohn (2.76 ERA, 34 strikeouts in 32 2/3 innings) has been the most effective Angels reliever aside from the recently traded Scott Downs.
