Angels to use more match-ups in ninth inning

(7/31/2013) After Angels closer Ernesto Frieri blew his second save in two chances Tuesday against Texas, the club is considering moving to a closer-by-committee system, MLB.com reports.
Frieri has allowed 14 baserunners of his last 20 batters faced over his last four appearances and has seen his ERA balloon from 2.76 to 4.20 over that span. Manager Mike Scioscia said Frieri's confidence "might be a little dinged" and suggested he would attempt to play matchups in the ninth inning going forward.
Dane De La Rosa, who has been pitching the eighth inning and owns a 3.93 ERA, could get some looks. Michael Kohn (2.76 ERA, 34 strikeouts in 32 2/3 innings) has been the most effective Angels reliever aside from the recently traded Scott Downs.
