Giants designate Erik Cordier for assignment

(5/17/2015) Giants pitcher Erik Cordier was activated from the disabled list Sunday and designated for assignment, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

Cordier was placed on the disabled list in April due to a forearm strain, but he reached the end of his rehab window yesterday, prompting the team to make a move. The pitcher has posted a 1.50 ERA and 20:8 K:BB ratio in 12 innings between high Class A San Jose and Triple-A Sacramento.

(4/17/2015) Giants pitcher Erik Cordier tossed a scoreless inning while racking up two strikeouts in his rehab debut with high Class A San Jose Thursday.

Cordier threw 11 of his 17 pitches for strikes in his one inning of work and didn't give up any hits or walks. He's working his way back from a forearm strain.

(4/16/2015) Giants right-hander Erik Cordier is set to make a rehab start for Class A San Jose on Thursday night. He is expected, however, to pitch just one inning.

The 29-year-old Cordier, who has just seven major league appearances and six innings under his belt, was sidelined with a forearm strain late in spring training.

The forearm is improving with treatment, and Cordier hopes to begin throwing again in the near future.

Cordier has not allowed a run in three spring innings.

(3/21/2014) The Giants optioned pitchers Heath Hembree, Erik Cordier and Jake Dunning to Triple-A Fresno Friday.

Hembree allowed just one earned run on one hit and two walks in four innings while striking out five in five Cactus League appearances this spring.

The Giants also reassigned catcher Guillermo Quiroz, first baseman Mark Minicozzi and pitchers Brett Bochy and Adam Reifer to minor-league camp Friday.
