Marlins make plethora of roster moves by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(3/26/2013) The Marlins made several roster moves on Tuesday, reports the Palm Beach Post. Miami optioned left-handed reliever Dan Jennings to Triple-A New Orleans. Infielders Nick Green, Kevin Kouzmanoff, Matt Downs, Jordan Brown and pitcher Zach Phillips all were reassigned to minor league camp.
CBS Sports Baseball Insider Jon Heyman suggests Green could opt out of his contract. Green, who was battling for a backup infield spot, hit .250 this spring with two RBI over 40 at-bats. He played in seven games for the Marlins last year and hit .174.
The 31-year-old Kouzmanoff hit .345 this spring with three homers and eight RBI but never seriously contended for the third base job.
Downs, 29, hit just .146 this spring over 41 at-bats after hitting only .202 with the Astros last year over 91 games.
Jennings, 25, had a rough spring after a terrific 22 games with the Marlins last year. He pitched to a 1.89 ERA over 19 innings last season but gave up nine runs -- six earned -- over eight spring innings and will begin the year in the minors.
