Astros demote Brandon Laird

(5/6/2013) The Houston Astros optioned third baseman Brandon Laird to Triple-A Oklahoma City Monday to clear roster space, MLB.com reports. 

The 25-year-old Laird was hitting .200 over 35 at-bats with two homers and five RBI.

(4/24/2013) Astros first baseman Brandon Laird had an excellent day out of the third spot in the order Wednesday afternoon, hitting two doubles as well as his second home run of the season. It was his first game with a hit since his season debut April 20, when he also homered for the Astros while hitting third.

The three extra-base hits raise Laird's line to .294/.333/.765 in 18 plate appearances this season.

(4/18/2013) The Astros have called up corner infielder Brandon Laird.

The 25-year-old Laird was off to a strong start in Triple-A, hitting .353/.364/.569 in 55 plate appearances. He has experience playing first and third base in the majors and could see time at both spots with the Astros. The team sent Brett Wallace to Triple-A to make room for Laird.

(3/21/2013) Astros infielder Brandon Laird came on in relief of injured first baseman Brett Wallace Thursday and took Justin Verlander deep for his fifth home run of the spring.

Laird has seen time at first base and third base this spring as he tries to make the opening-day roster. "I feel it's going pretty well," Laird told MLB.com. "I'm doing whatever they ask me to do. At the plate right now, I'm feeling pretty good and confident and just getting good pitches, just getting in good hitters' counts and putting good swings on it."

(9/1/2012) The Astros have acquired infielder Brandon Laird off trade waivers from the Yankees on Saturday. Laird has yet to play in the majors this season. Lair will report to Houston on Sunday according to the Houston Chronicle.
