Donavan Tate returns to the Padres by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(6/18/2013) Former No. 3 overall pick Donavan Tate has returned to the Padres after he failed to report for spring training due to a personal issue, according to MLB.com. Tate reported to the team's workout facility in Arizona for extended spring training Tuesday, and will work to get into baseball shape.
"It's been the same kind of things that I've been dealing with in my life for a long time," Tate told MLB.com. "They were issues that I finally felt I needed to address -- not just for me to play baseball, but to live life and enjoy it."
Tate has struggled to get going since being selected in the 2009 draft, posting a .241 batting average and .678 OPS in 171 minor-league games, and it is not clear where -- or how soon -- he will resume his career.
