Rangers' Tommy Field recalled on Monday, hits first career home run

by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(5/11/2015) Tommy Field, who was called up Monday afternoon, connected for his first career home run in the Rangers' win over the Royals.

His seventh-inning blast to center field traveled an estimated 428 feet.

Field went 1 for 3 with a walk and two runs scored while impressing manager Jeff Banister with his defense and his disciplined approach at the plate, MLB.com reports.

"To drive a ball out of the ballpark, yes," Banister said. "The other side of that is he played good defense and handled the baseball. Very attentive. The energy level should give him some good night's rest. Something to ride high on to come in tomorrow ready to play."

Rangers plug new 2B Thomas Field into Monday lineup

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5/11/2015) It didn't take the Rangers long to get just-promoted second baseman Thomas Field into their lineup. He is set to start Monday against Kansas City. Field is batting eighth.

The 28-year-old Field, who has 76 big-league at-bats, earned the move up by compiling a .298/.373/.538 slash line at Triple-A Round Rock.

Rangers option Rougned Odor after losing playing time to Rosales

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5/11/2015) The Rangers have optioned second baseman Rougned Odor, CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman reports.

The Dallas Morning News reported previously that Odor was on the verge of a demotion to Triple-A Round Rock. He has hit just .144/.252/.233 with one home run, nine RBI and one stolen base in 90 at-bats and has been out of the starting lineup for three straight games.

"Rougned definitely will be part of a winning formula in Arlington," manager Jeff Banister said, per MLB.com. "We felt it was time for Rougned to go down and get back to being the type of player that got him here: gritty, gutty, tough at-bats, play routine defense, play with his hair on fire all over the place.

"He is not unlike a lot of players who came up at a young age, had an amount of success, then the major-league atmosphere, major-league players, threw a punch at them. He needs to go down, get re-connected to the player he was, come back better and more capable of throwing a counter punch."

With Odor heading to Triple-A, Adam Rosales could see more playing time at second base moving forward. Rosales has started four of the last five games at second base but has hit just .167/.222/.310 in 42 at-bats.

In a corresponding move, the Rangers have purchased the contract of infielder Thomas Field from Round Rock. He has hit .298/.373/.538 with five home runs and 13 RBI in 104 Triple-A at-bats and is in the starting lineup Monday.

Angels make series of cuts

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(3/24/2013) The Angels made a series of roster moves and cuts Sunday, reports MLB.com. Los Angeles optioned infielder Thomas Field, outfielder Scott Cousins and reliever Nick Maronde to Triple-A Salt Lake. The team also reassigned relievers Chad Cordero and Kevin Johnson and outifelder Matt Young to minor-league camp.

Field hit just .200 this spring during Cactus League play. He could come back up for the Angels as a bench option at some point.

Cousins also hit just .200 this spring to earn his demotion. He should be considered outfield depth at Triple-A.

Maronde, who was able to put up a 2.26 ERA as a starter in 2012 in his first full season, will switch to a relief role at Triple-A. The Angels feel his stuff is better out of the bullpen. He struck out 11 batters this spring over 9 2/3 innings, but also walked seven and gave up 12 earned runs.
