Leury Garcia takes loss in first career pitching appearance

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/17/2014) White Sox infielder Leury Garcia was called upon to make his first career pitching appearance in the 14th inning Wednesday, and he gave up two earned runs and took the loss as the Red Sox pulled out a 6-4 win.

Garcia (0-1) got the first two batters he faced out before walking the next two. Jackie Bradley then came up and hit a two-run double down the right field line that was just fair. Garcia's mound appearance will likely be his last for a long while.

White Sox move forward without Avisail Garcia in outfield

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4/10/2014) In the first game after it was announced outfielder Avisail Garcia would miss the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury, the White Sox aligned their outfield with Alejandro De Aza in left field, Adam Eaton in center field and Dayan Viciedo replacing Garcia in right field Thursday vs. Cleveland.

Viciedo and De Aza are likely to see more playing time in Garcia's absence. Jordan Danks, who was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte, is likely to work into the outfield mix as well. The White Sox have Leury Garcia listed as a reserve outfielder on the team's depth chart, but he has yet to make a start in the outfield this season.

(4/2/2014) White Sox second baseman Leury Garcia scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 11th inning Wednesday to give his team a 7-6 win over the Twins.

Garcia went 2 for 4 from the ninth spot in the lineup in his season debut, adding an RBI as well as his walkoff run. He did a solid job this spring, going 11 for 36 with four walks.

White Sox send Gordon Beckham to DL

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(3/26/2014) The White Sox made several moves on Wednesday, the most significant of which was the placement of starting second baseman Gordon Beckham on the disabled list with an oblique injury. Marcus Semien will replace him in the starting lineup.

The temporary loss of Beckham resulted in fellow second baseman Leury Garcia landing a spot on the opening day roster.

Marcus Semien, Leury Garcia expected to see work at second base

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(3/15/2014) White Sox manager Robin Ventura told the Chicago Sun-Times on Saturday that Marcus Semien and Leury Garcia will see some playing time at second base in place of an injured Gordon Beckham.

Beckham suffered a strained oblique, which should keep him sidelined for about a week. Semien has four hits in his first 17 at-bats while Garcia has just four hits in his first 16 at-bats this spring.

(8/22/2013) The White Sox have called up infielder Leury Garcia Thursday.

(8/9/2013) The Rangers are expected to send shortstop prospect Leury Garcia to the White Sox as part of their acquisition of Alex Rios, according to MLB.com. For now, the deal is officially for a player to be named later as the Ragners do now have waiver rights to Garcia.

Garcia appeared in 25 major-league games with the Rangers this season, hitting just .192 with a .467 OPS in 52 at-bats. He has a .723 OPS for Triple-A Round Rock this season.

Garcia hit .192 for the Rangers while up with the team over 52 at-bats. He was just 1 for 10 (.100) in June with two strikeouts.

Leury Garcia fine 'for now' with utility role

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(5/22/2013) Rangers infielder Leury Garcia drew the start at second base Wednesday against the Athletics after Jurickson Profar started two straight games for the injured Ian Kinsler. Manager Ron Washington said it was imperative to keep Garcia engaged because Garcia is expected to remain the team's utility infielder once Kinsler comes off the disabled list, per MLB.com.

"Now the opportunity is here, I have to take advantage of it," Garcia said. "I never thought about being a utility player in the minor leagues. When they asked me to do it, I decided to take my chances and see what happens. For now it's fine."

Jurickson Profar, Leury Garcia to split time at 2B

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(5/20/2013) Rangers manager Ron Washington said infielders Jurickson Profar and Leury Garcia will split time at second base with Ian Kinsler on the shelf, ESPN reports Monday.

Profar started Monday against Oakland. While the fans want to see Profar, a top prospect, every day, Washington wants to keep Garcia active.

"Leury's going to get some time there," Washington said. "So when you see Profar sitting, don't be surprised."

Leury Garcia records three hits vs. Astros

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Garcia, who grounded into a fielder's choice and scored in the opening frame, singled in the third, fourth and fifth innings. He finished 3 for 6 with four runs scored and an RBI in a 12-7 win.

Leury Garcia impressive in starting debut

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(4/14/2013) Texas manager Ron Washington was impressed with infielder Leury Garcia's first major league start for the Rangers Saturday against Seattle, the Dallas Morning News reports Sunday.

Garcia made two excellent defensive plays in the field and was back in the lineup Sunday against the Mariners with Ian Kinsler getting a planned day off. He went 1 for 2 at the plate with a walk and a run scored.

"I didn’t know how he was going to react," Washington said. "He didn’t show any affects in terms of being afraid. We talked to him before the game about relaxing and having fun. I’m pleased. I’m happy I can send him out there and trust him. He is going to make mistakes, but as long as he goes about things the right way, I’ll be very happy."

(3/26/2013) Rangers rookie infielder Leury Garcia was told that he would make the team’s opening-day roster.

The move means top prospect Jurickson Profar will begin the year in the minors.

Garcia, 22, hit .292/.337/.398 in 416 plate appearances in Double-A last season.

Garcia to try the outfield

by Al Melchior | Data Analyst
(1/11/2012) Rangers SS prospect Leury Garcia will be used as an outfielder this season, according to ESPN.com. Garcia is ticketed for Double-A Frisco, and after playing all but one of his previous minor league games at shortstop, he will see some time in center field this year. "Once [prospects] get to the Double-A level, we like to experiment a little with their athleticism and versatility if it helps them get to the big leagues and contribute," Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. Garcia hit .256 with 30 stolen bases for Class A Myrtle Beach in 2011.
