Blue Jays sign Alex Hassan to minor-league deal

(5/20/2015) The Blue Jays agreed to terms with outfielder Alex Hassan on a minor-league deal, reports Sportsnet.ca.

Hassan played for the Red Sox last season and is 1 for 8 in three career games. He will report to extended spring training Thursday.

(5/8/2015) The Athletics designated Alex Hassan for assignment for a third time since the end of last season, according to a report by BB Essential. Hassan has been designated for assignment and waived six times since the end of last season. 

Hassan's current stint with the A's lasted six days. Oakland claimed him off waivers from Texas on May 2.

(5/2/2015) The Athletics announced several roster moves prior to Saturday's contest against the Rangers, per MLB.com.

The club placed Eric O'Flaherty on the 15-day disabled list with left shoulder strain, and designated outfielder Cody Ross for assignment. Billy Burns and R.J. Alvarez were both recalled from Triple-A Nashville. Burns is leading off for the A's on Saturday.

Oakland also reclaimed Alex Hassan off waivers and optioned him to Triple-A.


Rangers' Moreland undergoes elbow surgery; Blanks promoted

(4/29/2015) Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland underwent surgery to remove a loose body from his left elbow, per the team's official website.

Moreland was scratched from the Rangers' lineup on Tuesday after his elbow had locked up on him earlier in the day. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list. Texas purchased the contract of first baseman Kyle Blanks from Round Rock. Outfielder Alex Hassan has been designated for assignment to open space on the active roster.

Moreland started the year with a .304 batting average, a home run and nine RBI in 16 games.

Hassan missed a large portion of the spring but was able to return Saturday, banging out two hits in his two at-bats. He went 8 for 18 with one double in major-league action this spring.

Hassan has been sidelined since March 11 due to the issue. Outfielder Josh Reddick, who was shut down earlier in March due to an oblique strain, could return as early as Sunday.
