by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4/10/2014)  Cubs outfielder Junior Lake hit his first home run of the season Wednesday, in a 7-5 win over the Pirates.

Lake clubbed a solo home run into left field for his lone hit of the game, though he also added an RBI groundout in the sixth inning. He finished the game 1 for 4 with two RBI, while striking out once in the win.

Lake is hitting .273 through his first eight games of the season, though he had yet to drive in a run prior to Wednesday's game. He is hitting .273/.333/.500 in 22 at-bats.

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(3/23/2014) Cubs outfielder Junior Lake came up big on Sunday, slugging three homers in his final three at-bats of 10-6 win over Oakland in Cactus League play.

Lake launched a three-run home run in the sixth, a two-run shot in the seventh, and a solo shot in the ninth inning. He finished 3 for 5 with three runs scored and six RBI. He is hitting .250 with three homers and nine RBI over 40 at-bats.

Cubs bring Junior Lake's winter ball season to an end

by Al Melchior | Data Analyst
(12/15/2013) According to the Chicago Tribune, the Cubs shut down outfielder Junior Lake, bringing him back from his stint in the Dominican Winter League. The team used a "fatigue clause" to pull Lake from the winter league, ending his season after 27 games.

Lake followed up his rookie campaign, in which he hit .284 with six home runs in 64 games, by leading the winter league with a .343 batting average.

Junior Lake gets start against righty

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9/16/2013) Though he has typically sat against right-handers since losing his everyday role Sept. 1, Cubs outfielder Junior Lake was in the lineup for Monday's game against Brewers' righty Wily Peralta in Milwaukee, bumping Brian Bogusevic to the bench. Three of Lake's previous four starts had come against lefties.

Lake, a rookie, is batting .277 with a .764 OPS against righties compared to .393 with a .957 OPS against lefties.

Junior Lake sitting Friday

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(9/13/2013) Cubs outfielder Junior Lake is not in the team's starting lineup Friday against the Pirates.

Ryan Sweeney and Brian Bogusevic will start in the outfield, leaving Lake as the odd man out. He's hitting .312/.354/.472 in 199 at-bats.

Junior Lake hits grand slam against Brewers

by Jack Moore | CBSSports.com
(9/6/2013) Cubs outfielder Junior Lake hit his fifth home run, a grand slam, in Friday's victory over Milwaukee.

Lake finished 2 for 4 with the run scored and four RBI. Lake continues to impress in his first stint as a major leaguer. The solid game raised his batting line to .299/.342/.446.

Junior Lake gets a break

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(8/14/2013) Cubs outfielder Junior Lake is not in the team's starting lineup Wednesday against the Reds.

Lake will be replaced by Darnell McDonald in left. Lake is hitting .300/.330/.445 in 110 at-bats. Lake has started the past eight days.

Junior Lake continues to hit away in August

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(8/11/2013) Cubs outfielder Junior Lake had two hits, including a double, two runs and one walk Saturday against the Cardinals. Lake has hit safely in all but one of nine games in August.

Lake is batting .368 (14 for 38) with a .553 slugging percentage and .967 OPS this month. He also has one double, two home runs, four RBI and five runs.

Manager to keep Junior Lake near top of lineup

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(8/5/2013) Cubs rookie outfielder Junior Lake is sporting a .533 slugging percentage through his first 18 games. Despite numbers indicating he has the potential to hit lower in the lineup, Cubs manager Dale Sveum said he intends to keep Lake toward the top of the lineup.

"Right now I like him where he's been. He's doing just fine," Sveum said, per MLB.com. "I mean, those kind of things you project once they, you know, have got a lot of at-bats in and see how they are. A lot of things are dictated [by] the rest of the personnel on your team. So it's hard to say he's this or he's that. And you don't have really a three or a two or whatever, you can go on and on about that. But until it's all said and done, you're not going to want to mess with anything."

Junior Lake makes franchise history with four-hit game

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(8/2/2013) Cubs outfielder Junior Lake continues to shine, as he followed up his multi-homer game Thursday with the second four-hit game of his career Friday against the Dodgers.

Lake hit four singles in five at-bats Friday, in a 6-2 loss. He became the first Cubs player since 1900 to collect two four-hit games during his first 16 career games. He is batting .358 with a .959 OPS in 67 at-bats.

Junior Lake goes yard twice in losing effort

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/2/2013) Cubs outfielder Junior Lake turned in a productive night at the dish as he homered twice Thursday against the Dodgers.

Lake took starter Ricky Nolasco deep twice for a pair of solo home runs. He finished 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBI in a 6-4 defeat. He is hitting .323 with four homers and seven RBI in 62 at-bats in the majors.

Junior Lake gets a breather

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(7/31/2013) Cubs outfielder Junior Lake is not in the team's starting lineup Wednesday against the Brewers.

Lake will be replaced by Julio Borbon in left. Lake is expected to receive the bulk of the playing time in the outfield moving forward, so this should be nothing more than a normal day of rest. Lake is hitting .316/.339/.474 in 57 at-bats.

Junior Lake to see most of time in outfield

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/30/2013) Cubs manager Dale Sveum said Tuesday he only intends to play outfielder Junior Lake in the infield on a "need" basis. The Cubs are focused on getting Lake acclimated to playing the outfield.

"You can’t replace the reps in a game in center field and the outfield," Sveum said, per MLB.com. "You can kind of simulate infield because of ground balls but the outfield. It’s very difficult to simulate balls over your head and in the gap and other outfielders running for the same ball. Outfield is a lot of reps to get going out there."

Cubs manager not taking Junior Lake out of lineup

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/29/2013) After hitting safely in his first seven games, Cubs rookie outfielder Junior Lake enters play Monday against the Brewers mired in a 0-for-12 slump in his last three games. While Lake's average has plummeted from .484 to .349, Cubs manager Dale Sveum isn't worried.

"As far as I'm concerned, he'll be in there every day," Sveum said, per MLB.com.

Junior Lake to get regular at-bats after Alfonso Soriano trade

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(7/26/2013) Cubs outfielder Junior Lake will see regular at-bats moving forward with Alfonso Soriano expected to be traded to the Yankees, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Lake will start in left field against right-handers and in center field against left handers.

Lake has recorded at least one hit in each of his first seven games after Thursday's 1-for-4 performance, going 15 for 31 with two home runs, five RBI and one stolen base since his debut on July 19.

Junior Lake doesn't have proven HR track record

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/24/2013) I'm as impressed as anyone with what Cubs outfielder Junior Lake has done to begin his MLB career. But Fantasy owners in seasonal formats should treat him as a stopgap Fantasy option and be ready to cash out when the tide starts to turn.

Lake's numbers in the minors weren't overly impressive. He had a career .271/.322/.411/.732 slash line in 619 games. He was definitely having a strong season for Triple-A Iowa before being promoted to the majors, batting .295 and slugging .462 in 40 games, but Lake doesn't have great home run power, despite belting two home runs in five games for Chicago.

Lake could probably hit for a decent average and steal some bases, but it's hard to envision him being able to sustain the power surge he is on to begin his MLB career. He just doesn't have the track record to prove it will last.

Junior Lake avoiding 'poor' at-bats

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/23/2013) Cubs manager Dale Sveum moved rookie outfielder Junior Lake into the leadoff spot for the first time Monday at Arizona. Lake responded positively, totaling a career-high four hits (including first career home run) and three RBI.

"He has had 16 or 17 at-bats and hasn’t had a poor one," Sveum said, per ESPN. "Like I said when he got here, he was going to have to play himself out of the position. Obviously that isn’t happening."

Lake has hit safely in each of his first four games since his promotion from the minors. He is batting .529 (9 for 17) with one double, one home run, three RBI and one stolen base.

"I have the same approach leading off or down in the lineup," Lake said with an assist in translation from coach Franklin Font. "I am looking for fastballs. I think if you work hard something good will happen."

Junior Lake has first homer, four-hit game

by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(7/23/2013) Cubs young outfielder Junior Lake had a big game Monday in a win at Arizona. Lake recorded his first career home run and didn't stop there, MLB.com reports.

Lake went 4 for 5, obviously his first four-hit game, in the leadoff spot for the Cubs in the 4-2 win. He homered in the fifth for a two-run shot off Tyler Skaggs. Lake drove in three runs and scored once.

The 23-year-old has hit in all four games since his debut and has gone 9 for 17 (.529) with a stolen base.

Junior Lake collects three hits in debut

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(7/20/2013) Hitting sixth and playing center field in his major-league debut Friday, Cubs infield prospect Junior Lake went 3 for 4 with double and a stolen base in his team's 3-1 win over the Rockies.

Lake had played just six games in the outfield in the minors before his debut, with all of them coming in right field this season. He hit .295/.341/.462 with four home runs, 18 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 156 at-bats with Triple-A Iowa before his promotion.

Junior Lake gets the call

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(7/19/2013) The Cubs recalled shortstop Junior Lake from Triple-A Iowa Friday, taking Brian Bogusevic's spot on the active roster.

Lake was hitting .295/.341/.462 at Triple-A in 156 at-bats.

Cubs expected to promote Junior Lake

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(7/18/2013) The Cubs are expected to promote shortstop Junior Lake to the majors, MLB.com reports. Lake could take the 25-man roster spot of outfielder Brian Bogusevic, who aggravated his hamstring Sunday and is expected to be placed on the 15-day disabled list.

Lake has hit .295/.341/.462 with four home runs, 18 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 156 at-bats with Triple-A Iowa.

Jorge Soler among Cubs' cuts

by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com
(3/17/2013) The Chicago Cubs made another wave of cuts Sunday, optioning outfielder Jorge Soler to Class A Daytona; shortstop Junior Lake to Triple-A Iowa and third baseman Christian Villanueva to Double-A Tennessee.

At just 21, Soler is viewed as one of the club's top prospects, but the Cubs have been adamant about not rushing his development. He posted a .299 batting average with 12 extra-base hits and 12 stolen bases in just 34 games across two lower levels of the minors last year.

Lake out 4-6 weeks

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(3/13/2013) MLB.com reports Cubs infielder Junior Lake is out 4-6 weeks with a stress fracture in the top rib on the right side of his body.

Lake still adjusting to 3B

(3/4/2013) Cubs prospect Junior Lake has been working out at third base this spring as he continues to make the transition from shortstop. Lake received the start at the hot corner in Monday's Cactus League game against the Indians and went 0 for 3 with two strikeouts. "Lake is learning the position and in game situations seems to be OK," manager Dale Sveum said. "We have to work out some fundamental things with him."
