Mastroianni was shipped out in favor of Sam Fuld, who the team claimed on waivers. Mastroianni was hitless in 11 at-bats this season.

(4/18/2014) Hot-hitting left fielder Jason Kubel is not in the lineup Friday night for the Twins against Kansas City southpaw Jason Vargas. He has been replaced by Darin Mastroianni, who will lead off.

Kubel is batting .340 on the season, but just .188 against left-handers.

(1/9/2014) The Twins announced Thursday they invited 23 players to spring training as non-roster invitees. Among the more notable names are top prospects Miguel Sano, Byron Buxton and Alex Meyer.

Other notable names are infielder Jason Bartlett and outfielder Jason Kubel, who have played for the Twins in the past. 

The remaining list of invites include Sean Gilmartin, Matt Hoffman, Aaron Thompson, Deolis Guerra, Lester Oliveros, Yohan Pino, Kyle Knudson, Matt Koch, Dan Rohlfing, Stuart Turner, James Beresford, Doug Bernier, Deibinson Romero, Brandon Waring, Darin Mastroianni, Jermaine Mitchell, Chris Rahl and Wilkin Ramirez.

(12/23/2013) The Twins announced they outrighted outfielder Darin Mastroianni to Triple-A Rochester on Monday.

Mastroianni missed most of the 2013 season with an ankle injury, and he had surgery on his ankle in October. He hit .185 in 30 games for the Twins.

(10/22/2013) Twins outfielder Darin Mastroianni had ankle surgery last week, according to FSN.

Mastroianni missed a large chunk of the season due to an ankle injury, but was able to return during September. The injury limited him to just 65 at-bats. Mastroianni hit .185.

(9/4/2013) Twins outfielder Darin Mastroianni recorded three hits during an extra-inning win in Houston Tuesday night.

Mastroianni went 3 for 6 in the game with three RBI. Mastroianni hit a sacrifice fly to center in the eighth inning to put Minnesota up 6-3. His double in the 12th, however, broke the game open for the Twins scoring two runs to make it 9-6.

The 28-year-old has hit in three straight and is batting .250 on the year. The three RBI gives him four over 13 games.

(8/15/2013) Twins outfielder Darin Mastroianni has been reinstated from the 60-day disabled list, and has been sent to Triple-A.

Mastroianni has been out since mid April with a ankle injury. He also hyperextended his knee in early August. He hit .222 in nine at-bats.

(8/7/2013) Twins outfielder Darin Mastroianni, who had just moved his rehab assignment up to Triple-A Rochester, had to be removed from his game Wednesday, Baseball America reports.

Mastroianni's right foot came off first base awkwardly as he was attempting to beat out a double play and he was diagnosed with a hyperextended right knee.  

He walked off on his own power, so the Twins are hoping this isn't a huge setback for the 27-year-old. He initially injured his ankle in late March and has been working his way back since.

(8/7/2013) Twins outfielder Darin Mastroianni has moved his rehab assignment to Triple-A Rochester Wednesday, MLB.com reports. Mastroianni, who has been out with an ankle injury, was batting second and starting in center for the Red Wings. 

There is the possibility that Mastroianni can return to Minnesota's roster at some point this month. He would function as a backup outfielder should that happen.

Mastroianni has not played in the majors since mid April. He's been out with an ankle injury. Mastroianni began rehabbing in the Gulf Coast League Monday. Mastroianni played in just eight games before the injury.

(7/23/2013) Twins outfielder Darin Mastroianni is nearing a rehab assignment, MLB.com reports Tuesday. Mastroianni has been in Fort Myers since July 7 as he's recovering from ankle surgery on May 22. 

"Mastro is getting closer," Twins assistant GM Rob Antony said. "We haven't pinpointed the day, but everything has been fine. He's been running the bases better, but it's the deceleration where he feels it. But he's getting closer and he'll start a rehab as well."

(7/4/2013) Twins outfielder Darin Mastroianni will report to the team's spring training facility in Fort Myers, Fla. Sunday, to continue his rehabilitation from a left ankle injury.

Mastroianni is on the 60-day disabled list and will work out in Fort Myers until he is ready to start a rehab assignment. Mastroianni has not played since April 15, and there is no timetable for his return to action.

"I'll be starting basically a mini-spring training," Mastroianni told MLB.com Thursday. "I'm not ready to play in games. So it's going to take a little while to get my legs underneath me and get into playing shape. So hopefully it won't take too long, and I can get rocking and rolling. But we don't know how the ankle is going to react. So it just depends on when I get in that first rehab game. We'll play it by ear."

(6/28/2013) Twins outfielder Darin Mastroianni was able to run full-speed and take batting practice Thursday, according to the Star Tribune

Mastroianni said his ankle was a little stiff after his run, but he didn't feel any pain when taking batting practice.

"I didn’t feel any pain at all as I was swinging, and it loosened up as I worked. For it to actually feel better as I worked it, that was really great. It was a big step," Mastroianni said. He said he doesn't expect to see any broken bones on his next X-ray. He added that he was way ahead of schedule. 

Mastroianni was hitting .222 in eight games.

(5/30/2013) Twins center fielder Darin Mastroianni had the cast removed from his left foot, the Star Tribune reports. He will wear a walking boot for two weeks. He had surgery to remove a bone chip from his ankle last week.

(5/15/2013) Twins outfielder Darin Mastroianni is still struggling to return from an ankle injury, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Mastroianni felt discomfort when he attempted to run on the ankle Wednesday. He was expected to go on a rehab assignment shortly and return in roughly a week. There is no official plan for the outfielder yet, but this news suggests late May could be an optimistic expectation for his return.
