OF Matt McBride designated for assignment by Rockies

(9/4/2015) Outfielder Matt McBride has been designated for assignment by the Rockies to make room on the roster for just-activated first baseman Justin Morneau.

McBride did not distinguish himself at the plate during his short stay with Colorado, He batted just .167 (7-for-42) with no RBI.


Matt McBride gives Ben Paulsen a rest at first for Rockies

(8/22/2015) Rockies first baseman Ben Paulsen isn't in the starting lineup for Saturday's game. Paulsen has started 55 games, including the last seven. 

Paulsen is being replaced in the lineup by Matt McBride, who gets his second start of the season at the position. 


Rockies DFA Drew Stubbs, recall OF Matt McBride on Wednesday

(8/12/2015) The Rockies designated outfielder Drew Stubbs for assignment on Wednesday. Stubbs struggled in 2015, his second season in Colorado. This year, he hit just .216 with five home runs in 51 at-bats. He spent 38 games with Triple-A earlier in the season to try and get him going.

But he wasn't able to reproduce the success he had in 2014, when he slashed .289/.339/.482 with 15 home runs in 132 games.

In a corresponding move, outfielder Matt McBride was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday.


Rockies option Rex Brothers, Brandon Barnes

(4/1/2015) The Rockies optioned pitcher Rex Brothers and outfielder Brandon Barnes to Triple-A Albuquerque and reassigned pitcher Scott Oberg and outfielder Matt McBride to minor-league camp, MLB.com reports.

Brothers racked up 19 saves while posting a 1.74 ERA in 67 1/3 innings with the team in 2013 but was unable to break camp with the team just two seasons later, delivering an 8.22 ERA and 8:6 K:BB ratio in 7 2/3 innings. He also managed a 5.59 ERA in 2014. Barnes received 292 at-bats in his first season with the Rockies in 2014 but hit just .229/.362/.250 this spring.


Rockies outright Matt McBride to Triple-A

McBride hit .226 over 31 at-bats with the club last season. He could have declined the assignment and become a free-agent, but opted to remain with the club.

(8/20/2014) Making his first start of the season Wednesday, Rockies first baseman Matt McBride went 2 for 3 with a grand slam in his team's 5-2 win over the Royals.

McBride made his season debut one day earlier, failing to get a hit in his only at-bat as a pinch hitter. McBride hit seven home runs in 187 at-bats with Triple-A Colorado Springs before joining the Rockies this week.


Rockies bring up Mat McBride, option Yohan Flande

(8/19/2014) The Rockies selected the contract of catcher Matt McBride Tuesday and optioned pitcher Yohan Flande to Triple-A Colorado Springs, the team announced.

McBride has hit .305/.345/.487 with seven home runs and 35 RBI in 187 at-bats with Colorado Springs. Flande went 0-5 with a 5.52 ERA and 26:13 K:BB ratio in 45 2/3 innings while with the Rockies.


Matt McBride breaks foot during home run trot

(4/19/2014) Rockies utility player Matt McBride broke the metatarsal bone in his right foot while running the bases after hitting a home run with Triple-A Colorado Springs, the Denver Post reports.

"It was like I got shot," McBride said.

McBride is hopeful he'll return to action sometime in June.

Rockies will have 24 non-roster invites in spring camp

(2/4/2014) The Rockies announced Tuesday 24 players received non-roster invites to spring training. The roster breakdown is 12 pitchers, four infielders, two outfielders and six catchers.

The pitchers are Christian Bergman, Brooks Brown, Greg Burke, Eddie Butler, Manny Corpas, Yohan Flande, Jonathan Gray, Pedro Hernandez, Chris Martin, Nick Masset, Scott Oberg and Josh Sullivan.

The four infielders are Paul Janish, Angelys Nina, Ben Paulsen and Rafael Ynoa. The two outfielders are Jason Pridie and Tim Wheeler.

The six catchers are Ryan Casteel, Dustin Garneau, Matt McBride, Michael McKenry, Tom Murphy and Jackson Williams.

Gray, Butler and Murphy are among the team's top prospects.

(9/12/2012) According to the Denver Post, Rockies outfielder Matt McBride could see some time at catcher with Ramon Hernandez sidelined by a hamstring injury. Wilin Rosario and Jordan Pacheco figure to get most of the work behind the plate, though.
