J.B. Shuck a solid AL-only add

by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer
(5/21/2013) Angels outfielder J.B. Shuck is the quietest .300 hitter (with five doubles) in the majors. So far this month, Shuck has started 15 games, getting 49 at-bats. And while his overall May average (.245) is somewhat unimpressive, Shuck has been great over his last six games, with a .333 average, two doubles and two runs scored.

The last we heard from Peter Bourjos -- the player Shuck replaced -- was a little over a week ago, when Bourjos announced that he was "walking normal" as part of his hamstring recovery. So he may be a while.

Shuck had a .301 average in 2,299 minor-league at-bats, with very little power but some decent still-unseen-in-the-majors speed. He doesn't offer much in the way of jaw-dropping offense, but Shuck is playing almost every day, can hit for average, and will get some counting stats (runs, RBI, possibly a handful of steals) just by being a regular in the lineup.

For an AL-only owner with a hole in the outfield, Shuck could be a sly add, with his regular at-bats and solid average.

"It's fun to play every day, but you never want to see a guy go down, and you don't want to get a spot like that," Shuck told MLB.com. "My job is to do what they need me to do. Right now, it's to fill in for Pete."

J.B. Shuck scores a pair for Angels in loss

by Jack Moore | CBSSports.com
(5/1/2013) Angels outfielder J.B. Shuck went 2 for 3 with two runs scored in Tuesday's loss against Oakland.

Shuck continues to hit when given a chance, as his line is up to a robust .471/.526/.588. With Peter Bourjos on the disabled list, Shuck is likely to stay in the lineup for the near future. The 26-year-old is a .306/.387/.367 career hitter.
