Angels claim Ryan Wheeler, DFA David Carpenter

(8/2/2014) The Angels claimed infielder Ryan Wheeler off waivers from the Rockies Saturday, the team announced.

Wheeler was hitting .232/.281/.375 in 56 at-bats for the Rockies before he was waived. Pitcher David Carpenter was designated for assignment to make room on the roster for Wheeler. 


Rockies busy with minor moves Wednesday

(7/31/2014) The Rockies made several minor moves Wednesday, including the promotion of left-handed pitcher Pedro Hernandez from Triple-A Colorado Springs to make a start against the Cubs.

They have also optioned right-hander Rob Scahill to the same team and designated third baseman Ryan Wheeler for assignment.

The team has called up pitcher Nick Masset from Triple-A Colorado Springs and optioned Ryan Wheeler down as a corresponding move. Tyler Chatwood was also transferred to the 60-day disabled list.

(5/4/2014) Making his first start of the season Saturday, Rockies infielder Ryan Wheeler went 1 for 3 with his first home run in his team's 11-10 win over the Mets.

Wheeler made his season debut Friday, recording a single in his only at-bat. Saturday's solo home run ignited an eight-run fifth inning that brought the Rockies back from a 6-0 deficit.

Rutledge has played both middle infield positions with the Rockies. He racked up 562 at-bats in the last two seasons combined.

(8/19/2013) The Rockies recalled infielder Ryan Wheeler on Monday with Yorvit Torrealba being placed on the 7-day disabled list for concussions, the Denver Post reports. Wheeler was previously up with the Rockies back in April and early May. 

Wheeler, who went 1 for 9 (.111) during his first stint with Colorado this season, is batting .308 over 415 at-bats with 10 homers and 81 RBI for Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Wheeler was hitting .348 (16 for 46) with four doubles, two home runs, 16 RBI and 10 runs in 15 games at Triple-A. He also hit safely in his last six games before being promoted to take Todd Helton's place on the roster.

Wheeler hit .348 with six extra-base hits in 15 games at Triple-A. The team will make the decision official if they decide to place Todd Helton on the disabled list. Helton has missed the last five games with a forearm injury.
