Xavier Avery clears waivers, heads to Triple-A

(4/2/2014) Mariners outfielder Xavier Avery has cleared waivers and will head to Triple-A Tacoma.

Avery went 6 for 25 and stole three bases during spring training. He spent all of 2013 in the minors, hitting .266/.345/.358 with four home runs and 30 stolen bases in 467 at-bats between Double-A and Triple-A.

(3/28/2014) Middle infielder Carlos Triunfel and outfielder Xavier Avery have been designated for assignment by the Mariners, the Seattle Times has reported. The moves open up spots on the opening day roster.

Jesus Montero one of three demoted by Mariners

(3/14/2014) Mariners 2013 disappointment Jesus Montero, who has made the switch from catcher to first base, was optioned Friday to Triple-A Tacoma. Joining him among the demoted were outfielders James Jones and Xavier Avery.

Montero had just recently emerged from the doldrums at the plate that had begun early last season. He hit .600 in his last 10 at-bats with two home runs and two doubles, but now must try to work his way back to the big-league club.

(8/30/2013) The Orioles have traded outfielder Xavier Avery to the Mariners for Michael Morse, according to Peter Gammons. 

Avery was up with the club earlier in the season, but did not receive an at-bat. Avery is hitting .259/.340/.345 over two minor-league levels.

(6/6/2013) Orioles outfielder Xavier Avery, who was promoted earlier in the day, was optioned down to Triple-A Norfolk after Thursday's 3-1 victory over the Astros.

Avery has not played a game this season in the majors. He is hitting .192 in 15 games with the Tides after hitting .300 in 39 games with Double-A Bowie.

(6/6/2013) Orioles outfielder Xavier Avery is on the team's roster Thursday, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Although no move has been announced, Avery will likely fill in while Nick Markakis is away dealing with a death in the family. Avery received 94 at-bats with the club last year but has played in the minors this season. Markakis is expected to return soon, so the move could be temporary.

Steve Johnson will likely be placed on the disabled list to make room for Avery.

(5/21/2013) The Orioles promoted outfielder Xavier Avery from Double-A Bowie to Triple-A Norfolk Tuesday, the Baltimore Sun reports. 

Avery played in 32 games for the Orioles last year with a .223 average, a homer, six RBI and six stolen bases. Avery was hitting .300 with Bowie over 160 at-bats this year with 12 RBI, 34 runs scored and 12 steals.
